Ó
There are many great women in the gaming industry, and we're not just talking about the pro gamer groups you guys may know about. There are the industry leaders - those with key roles to play in the development of new games we may be seeing in the near future. Now, if the gals care to know more about what kind of responsibilities await them in the near future, we're letting them know about the upcoming Women In Games Conference 2007.
This year's conference is titled "Aesthetics in Play: new platforms, new perspectives, new players", and is hoped to help increase overall awareness of women as designers, consumers, and contributors within the constantly growing video game industry.
"The event was created as a forum to discuss a wide range of issues relating to women in games and to help develop ways of engaging girls and women in science and technology," said Emma Westecott, a researcher at the University of Wales' Synergy research lab. Synergy will be hosting the conference, which is expected to have these highly influential females as keynote speakers:
- Sharon Knight, Vice President & General Manager, Europe Online Electronic Arts
- Alice Taylor, Vice President of Digital Content, British Broadcasting Channel (BBC)
- Karen Wilkins-Mickey, Diversity Staffing Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation
- Dr. Mary Flanagan, Associate Professor and Director, Tiltfactor Laboratory
- Raina Lee, publisher and editor, 1-Up MegaZine
This year's Women In Games Conference happens from April 19 to 21, at the University of Wales in Newport, Wales. Those interested in joining the conference will find registration and programme details available at the event's home site, which is available at the read link.

Comments [refresh]
Oh my gosh, who cares.
Fix me a grilled cheese sandwich.
Just look at the comments that are made to do with any women in gaming article and you'll see nothing but sexist, childish, bs responses. Oh 'I'd hit it", 'She's hot', "She's fugly", 'Get back to the kitchen'.
Even the dude before me with his grilled cheese sandwich comment.
If you think women are supposed to be treated like this then you have a lot to learn - a whole lot you're going to miss in life - and the best women will be off limits no matter how much you lie, cheat, and steal.
Pathetic guys. Really pathetic.
Welcome to the internet... you might just wanna try the "taking the high road" approach. Going off on too far a tangent may seem a tad pretentious to some.
I just think that if women want equality, then they don't need women-only or women-special anything.
Plus, when I made that comment, my fiance was making me a grilled cheese sandwich. She grated the cheese for it too, mmmm.
This is dumb, many Women get gaming jobs, there is absolutely no problems with equality. Men are just more interested in games, Women are more interested in shoes.
Oh brother. Why are the women so important to the video games ? What's wrong with us ? Men In Games Conference 2007, anyone ? Let's complete again Women In Games Conference 2008! HAHAHA!
What a jerk, who cares about them!
