Wii reaches 9 million, a million behind 360 |

It's official: there is no stopping Nintendo's momentum. As if it was just yesterday since the Wii reached 8 million, Ninty's product of innovation and waving sticks have finally arrived at the 9 million milestone - just a million away from Xbox 360.
Looking at the numbers VG Chartz had more than a month back, the Wii sold almost a million units since early June. The PlayStation 3 had a solid month and sold more than the 360, but both pale in comparison to Wii's performance.
On the handhelds side, the DS continues to dominate with almost 45 million units sold. Sony's PSP, while behind by a huge margin, still experience healthy sales as it got past the 22 million mark.
Let's not beat around the bush, here's what VG Chartz gathered:
Xbox 360: 10.08m (0.41m Japan 6.50m America 3.16m Others)
Wii: 9.05m (2.98m Japan, 3.64m America, 2.42m Others)
PS3: 3.69m (1.00m Japan, 1.58m America, 1.11m Others)
DS: 44.97m (18.14m Japan, 13.11m America, 13.72m Others)
PSP: 22.15m (5.75m Japan, 8.63m America, 7.78m Others)

Nintendo sticking it to Microshaft and Fony. GG.
it's cheaper and the graphic sucks!! still comparable to the graphic of ps2. it wil loose it's hype in a year time when ps3's library grows bigger
MS will probably regain the no1 spot once halo3 drops. And sony should get back to being 1/2 of what MS will sell at the same time once MGS4 drops (as long as it stays a sony exclusive that is).

Moron, its not comparable its PS2, its slighty better then xbox1 (which owns PS2 in terms of graphical power). Get your facts straight, you idiot. Look at Super Smash Brothers Brawl pictures. PS2 doesn't come close to doing that.

a combination of bad press for the 360 (with the height of the unreliability issues) and a bit of momentum from Sony from the 60GB pricecut before E3 and hike of hype on its upcoming games.

those arent the july numbers. thats i believe june 4th - july 7th that is 5 days before e3 and about 2 day before the price cut they will update their numbers when npd releases the sales numbers in august.
What the hell is the PS3 going to be getting? Killzone, Metal Gear, and Lair. That's about it. The rest already jumped ship to the Xbox which already has a ton of good games, and will soon have Halo 3. (Which face it, Halo 3 will outsell all of the above listed PS3 exclusives because the fanboys demand it.)
I will agree that right now the Wii doesn't really have games with graphics beyond that of the PS2, but obviously the Wii is going to be gaining some really big games over the next year. More awesome exclusives that Sony will never get.

Point is, the Wii's library is going to go far beyond that of the PS3. The PS3 has about as much luck catching up to the Wii as the PSP catching the DS.
So all you Wii fanboys can do is flaunt your sales numbers and tell us that the wii is equal to the xbox in terms of graphics? You are pathetic. Omg the Wii is outselling Ps3!!! Its also $200 cheaper and aimed at older casual players who don't really care about video games. Nintendo has learned well from their mistakes. They can't make better games than Sony/MS, so they will take it a different route and make really simple and basic games to entice people who wouldn't normally play. A genius idea and I commend them for that. But this also means that their loyalty now lies with the casual gamer. So you can defend Nintendo all you want. But if you appreciate a deep, intense, and graphically jaw dropping experience you better look elsewhere because Nintendo could care less about you now. You are in the minority. It will only get worse, even to the point of taking away from the PS3/360 because developers can't afford to make these big blockbuster games and will settle for easy money on the Wii. So stop being cheap and stop bragging about how the Wii is crushing MS and Sony. It could bring about the end of the game industry as we know it. Think a little before you post. But I don't expect much intelligence from a Wii fanboy. Also, you guys used to be like "Nintendo isn't competing with Sony and MS." their numbers are wrong... somedays i go their and the numbers were less then a few hours ago... and besides that they have no data showing where their numbers are from and how their numbers add up to those. VGCHARTZ has list of numbers for every months/weeks all released by npd for software hardware etc. and their list makes sense where ass nexgenwars has different numbers everyday before npd releases any numbers.
Nintendo won't mean "jack" when big name titles for the PS3 and 360 will be releasing soon, both in this and the year to come.

Hah as a pretty good point. The only thing that Nintendo fanboys can do now is pray that Metroid, Mario, and SSBB are freaking amazing games that can hold onto hardcore gamers.
However, I disagree with Hah because of his ignorance of the Wii and video gaming in general (no offense) It was never graphics that made a game, Goldeneye and Ocarina are just as amazing now as they were 10 years ago . It has always been and always will be gameplay which all three companies are capable of making amazing.

Are any of those going to sell anywhere near the level of MGS, Killzone, Halo, Metroid, etc? GT5 maybe, but the others stand almost no chance of being anywhere near the other games I listed, and Unreal doesn't count because it's not exclusive.
The PS3 has no chance. End of. It's fallen so far behind in sales, and the Wii is about to overtake the 360 in sales. The Wii is an excellent gaming system, as is the 360.
The PS3 and PSP both show Sony's arrogance. They got *****y and it blew up in their face. They honestly believed that the Playstation name alone would be enough to take the handheld market, and keep them on top in the console market. It's this arrogance that made them blind to both Nintendo and Microsofts advancements.
I'll gladly shut up if some way in hell Sony catches up, but honestly they stand no chance. Their only chance is if they honestly drop the price on the PS3 $100 upon the release of a system selling game such as Metal Gear. And I mean an honest price drop, not just a clearance sale for a 100 gigabyte model. As it stands, the 360 is very likely to drop its price for the holidays with Halo 3, and Nintendo is poised to release many of those exclusives this christmas season.
And before you scream fanboy, I'd gladly buy a 360 if I could afford one, and I happily enjoy my PSP almost as much as my DS.

what your saying is funny, so for you it's all about graphics, if that's the point why paying lot of money to get a ps3 or a xbox360 while you can buy a new puter wich mostly will be way better graphicly than both of them, nintendo's strategie is to touch a large panel of users, and their game were all best, Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smach Bross, squaresoft is back to programming for nintendo too, so i think they will have their own game too, i'm a hard core gamer, but honestly i really don't care about gfx, it's better but sometimes i'll rather play an old zelda link to the past than some games in both ps3 + 360, i don't tell i don't like em if i have the money i would be them, but the joy that brings nintendo will never be matched by the others, specially when all of them said before the wii release that they will be dead, now look at the selling charts ;)
Everyone likes to flame analysts, but there's more wannabe analysts in these boards. The console war can go pretty much any way. Deals can be made, ***** can be done, etc etc etc. Why don't all you speculationists shut the hell up and just enjoy the ride. All these unbacked claims and wild generalizations (ie 'the rest already jumped ship to Xbox') are totally stupid and I won't say fanboy-ish, but just plain egg-headed. Yes, you're an egg. With that said, I'll probably buy a Wii and DS this week - I bought a PS3 last week. Living in Japan rocks.

I have a wii, 360 and a ps3 and i can honestly say that the wii is aimed at a diffirent genre to the 360 and ps3 and thus i find it very enjoyable plus its value for money, i have always found nintendo consles to be the best in eeach generation in terms of enjoyment. The 64 kicked the psones ass in the late 90's and the gamecube althogh lacking dvd support online multiplayer and a big games libary i still found it more fun than the ps2 and xbox. Now the next generation i think the 360 is ammazing the games are kick ass and live is sweet, the ps3 is sucky i wasted my money on this piece of junk don't do the same complete waste of money boring games. The wii not as graphically good as the 360 but still extremly fun wi-fi on strikers charged is a good laugh and is fun to play with a few mates. In conclusion: buy a wiii and a 360 for the same price as a ps3 and have much more fun than buying sonys hunk of junk

Like I've said many times before, 2008 is PS3's year. X360 is putting all of its cards down this year with Halo 3 and such. PS3 however is releasing just about exactly the same lineup they had with PS2 after it's release. A lineup that's made the path for the most successful console in histiory, and that is not a bad path to foillow.

actually if you watch the E3 trailer Peter Moore clearly shows a grath and says they have sold 5.6 million in the US. Which means both sites are exxaggerating alittle bit and the 360's sales are probably even less then whats stated because i doubt Europe has more 360's then the US for it to meet 11 million... and i doubt japan has even 400k... so you do the math and thats just simple math coming from what peter more said just a few days ago.
Out of all the games you listed above only 2 get my interest, mgs4 and tekken 6. Heavenly sword lost interest when it was given a teen rating. 360 still has alot of games coming out next year that are going to be big so i think next year is not going to be as clear and cut as the ps3 dominating everything. One thing you can expect in life is that thing dont just repeat themselves over and over, sony may not have the same history with the ps3 as it did with the ps2 just as the ps2 did not have the same history as the ps1. If anything the Wii is most likely according to statistical figures dominate this console generation which actually says alot since its the least impressive with graphics which usually was the bulk of marketing with consoles. But then again, the PS2 was the least graphicaly impressive from the 3 consoles at the time (based on hardware specs) and still managed to come up on top and some.
Its all about your appeal to the masses and nintendo is doing very well with that. Microsoft seems to be trying to cut in on that action to (those new toy controler things announced at E3). Sony on the other hand is holding firm on its course and for the sake of all the diehard sony fans I hope it reaps the benefit for them. Unlike nintendo and microsoft fanboys, sony fanboys are rather loyal to their company, i saw a bunch of sony fanboys jump a kid wearing a microsoft shirt in an arcade in chinatown last year because he said sony sucked. Beat him up real bad, felt sorry for the kid.

the past incarnations of SSB, Mario, and Metroid Prime have all been amazing. There is a fairly good chance the new ones will.

Still more lols to those who still remain sony fanboys. Wow much of you (few posts below me) are bashing Cyberblade for telling the truth, PS3 has no chance. I mean clearly the 360 is first place (may be lacking a bit in hardware sales but it's software sales look very promising (who knew that so many games on the 360 would sell over 1 million and none in the wii and PS3 lol) and considering Halo 3 is soon to come I guess their hardware sale is bound to increase rapidly. As for second place the Wii, they are selling lots of hardware, they just need that push from third party developers (which EA is starting) to be succesful. As for the PS3, it's dead, the chance to get back with GTA as an exclusive is lost as GTA moved to 360 and even said the game was bound to look better on the 360 (didn't sony promise superior graphics? why do most 360 games look better than ps3 games?). Aside from that the PS3 has horrible online, but even if it had good online (just imagine) it wouldn't matter as all my friends are on xbox Live, not on playstation network... In the end the Playstation is for... fanboys, just like nokia's n-gage, only that the PS3 has sold more than the n-gage cause they have more fanboys but still, the real gamers who buy consoles are the casual gamers, no casual gamer wants that bulky expensive ps3 with no xbox live XD
this battle isnt between nintendo and sony. They arent even seeing each other as true competition considering they are set for 2 different markets. The real battle is between sony and MS and both of those consoels kill nintendo anyway. i think the nintendo wii is jsut a fad. Ask yourself... are people going to be dying for a iphone 3 years from now when their maybe an "irazr 5" or something like that?? no and same goes for the wii. The wii is just a simple electronic which is based for casual gamers which will stop buying the consoles after all the hype is gone.

I have all 3, i never play ps3. I only bought it for the few exclusives and I only did that because I have a high paying job so I can splurge money once in a while. I play 360 the most and I play wii alot when really good single player games come out but for parties, most people run to my wii and no one really bothers with the PS3. These trends lead me to believe the wii is going to beat out the competetion. To say the PS3 is not going against the wii is dumb, sony looses sales because alot of people are buying wiis instead of ps3s. Same goes for the 360.
Also, just to be a little immature so I can fit in more here... The PS3 will not get you laid but the Wii will. The 360 might get you a hand job if your lucky.

Am I the only one to point out that although the worldwide Wii Sales figures are catching up to the 360's, here in the US there have been nearly 1.2 million more 360s sold than both PS3 and Wii combined! (Just look at the charts and see for yourselves!).
And since nearly half of all the world's game consoles are sold in the US, shouldn't we be focusing mainly on the figures from this country?
There may have been 3.72m Wiis sold, but Nintendo's not even half way to the 360's 6.54m console dominance here in the good ol' US-of-A.

Everyone said the DS was a fad, but as long as developpers keep coming up with good games that innovatively use the touch screen, in such diverse ways, it never gets old. And you know, alot of casual gamers want these things, but they may not get them after a year or two of it being out due too price. With the ps3, its a bit of a longer wait. Even if the Wii is a "fad", it will still sell more, but I personnally don't see it as one. Being able to have an on-screen cursor for games like Res evil 4 on wii will always make my day.
Without my homebrew and custom firmwares I would never even touch my PSP.
When a new Mario game comes out, it seems as though everyone knows, but when an exclusive Sony game comes out, only hardcore gamers seem to know or pay attention. And if most people have a Nintendo console, then they will obviously buy those games. And though they may be the same old franchises over and over, I always find that Nintendo really knows how to make a good game, because, financially, they have to.

Im sorry it seems you forget titles like god of war and final fantasy that are exclusive only to sony. MS isn't going to get those titles. And MS keeps trying to get FF on there platform which to them lacks.
But if you haven't notice SE said FF game for the Xbox is not even an option or a possibility. The PS3 are getting great games, One i can think of which is new is The Agency, which will kick butt against XBox. Don't get me wrong i don't hate the xbox, i just don't want to get a faulty system. I think the 3 year warranty is a scapegoat to there poorly built system.
And what does the wii have 4 good games this year. What happens next year, what great titles will they have, doesn't seem like much or any.
The wii remote is a fad like the system it self. And im pretty sure that they took some technology from Immersion to make it. Though so far they haven't found yet but you can only think about the possibility.
It seems your the biggest fanboy here, Youo have no idea how many exclusives sony is getting. At the end of this year and mid way 08 they will have 60 exclusives. And thats only the beginning. I could go on to list them but i rather not.
Also sony is making new franchises of game and pushing the envelope for there new games to show off the power of the cell. B4 you say the ps3 is done maybe you should check the problems the Xbox is having. I mean 7 months ago they claimed to reached 10 million. Now they are still there, It seems ironic that it hasn't gone up, maybe cause people don't want to buy a faulty system. But again i can't speak for everyone here. So enjoy your primitive wii remote, maybe it can actually help you lose some weight or better yet lose some ignorance that you have on the gaming world.
Sony is the most successful gaming company for 3 gens, however this gen is still open for debate. I know sony will lower the price needed for the demand of consumers, hell i know they get back into this race, i mean they slowly are making a comeback.

I don't know if this is true, but in the latest Game Informer in a little side bar they are not expecting FF13 to come to the US until 2009. Apparently, the localization process is expected to take an entire year, and the game isn't even expected to come to Japan until the end of 08 at the earliest.
I agree with um for the most part, who has next year is still up for debate. I don't know if many people know this, but MS didn't show the same old games at E3 because they have nothing new, but because they decided to show only games that are coming out for the holidays. They still have many announced big time 08 titles, and probably many they haven't said a word about.

I never use my DS anymore. When I go to the store, the only games I see for it are stupid kids' games like pokemon and other games that look so bad I wouldn't pay $5 for them. I have 6 games, and 4 of them are mario games of some type. There's absolutely no decent online games or games an adult would really want to play. There's no games that use the dual screens to any good use, and only a couple that use the touch screen effectively.
People just love Nintendo, and will buy nearly any product they make.

Everyone here seems to hate one system or another, I mean I have a soft spot for Nintendo, and used to be a fanboy when I was younger, but then I opened myself up to new consoles. I mean I use each console for a different reason. Gamecube/Wii is mainly used for parties. When I want a single player experience I play PS2. I will buy a PS3 when the price goes down, but I'm not gonna bash the Xbox 360 because I don't have it and probably will not buy one I'm just not rich enough and don't have a ton of interest in 360 games thats all, every system is good for different reasons, Wii is good for the innovation and 1st party games, PS3 is a graphic beast, 360 is the best online console.
Exactly, MS doesn't need sales tactics like selling a marked up "Elite" version of their console, which hopefully won't break the way their cheapers ones do. They don't need that kind of tactic at all.
Hate to disappoint you, but game developers are trying to make money. The console with the strongest market is likely to the the biggest priority for games, even if developers are forced to cut quality to get it onto a weaker platform.

If you will re-read my post Stealth you will find that I never once said it will suck, just that I am not expecting much from it based on OTHER Sony MMOs. I played both of those MMOs when they came out and stopped when Sony bought them, they destroyed both games. I think the best saying to sum it up is "Don't try to fix what ain't broke", because that's exactly what Sony did and they ended up breaking them beyond repair. I have no faith in Sony when it comes to MMOs

I still see a PS3 everytime I walk into a store... any store actually. Yet Wii and 360 are always gone, with the 360 having a better stock than Wii at the least.
I liked Sony, but after a while of their crappy products, I'm getting sick of them.
+ A MP3 player, near perfect condition, takes around 5 minutes to load a song, if it even does load one.
+ Camcorder, still works, but has turned out to be poor quality for its price.
+ PS2, loads very slow now, surprised it hasn't become what my friend's has... a broken system that cannot start.
+ PSP is a failure due to poor software and lack of interest in UMD usage.
+ PS3 is a failure due to hardly anything to have in software... AFTER ALREADY 8 MONTHS SINCE RELEASE... Not to mention the software of the PS3 is cheap... jsut look at the internet browser!
The point is, Sony had the market with PS2, but they lost it with PSP + PS3 failures. Unless they can clean their ***** together and get out awesome games that aren't shared with others, they will lose their market forever. It'll becoem the next gen"GameCube"...
Wii and 360 are the only ones doing thigns right. Wii has reached to the casual market while hanging onto the hardcore and offering a low cost (but VERY fun) console + software (games. The 360 has won the hearts of the hardcore due to such awesoem games; while tapping into the casual market with their console's features (DVD, media center entertainment, etc) and even with their Arcade.
PS3 is very far behind, the numbers reflect that. I'll buy a PS3 when it is worth it. And yes, it has the hardware, okay. But I'd rather use the $600 for a new computer. Sure, it doesnt have the Cell processor, but oh well. It gives more than the PS3 does. Giving ***** diamonds, doesn't change it from *****.
agreed. I think all these hard core gamers are so addicted to the internet and porn that their prospects for a girlfriend are next to none. The Wii may not make you go OMG look at those graphics, but any girls that come over will say OMG you have a wii i'm coming to you're dorm every night and bringing my friends!! Then they'll all get drunk and play wii, which will cause you to inevitably get laid. Think about it...
ps3 is cool for one reason. Blu-Ray. Have you seen a blu-ray on an HDTV? no? well, i guess that's why you say the system sucks. Ok, we're talking about games here, and I'm the first to admit the PS3 has nothing on either console when it comes to games. But, do I like downloading HD content for free? yes. Do I like watching Planet Earth on Blu-Ray on my 65" 1080P? yes. Nothing compares to that experience. I think that people won't realize the value of the PS3 until they own a quality HDTV set, with some digital surround sound to go with it. for $500 (with a free controller) it was the absolute most bang for your buck of ANY system to date. That's why Sony's losing money on it! Blu-ray, wifi, 60 gb upgradable hdd, bluetooth compatibility, HDMI output, hmmm lets think about this. For the same performance, you'd need to spend $1000 or more on your l33t+ accessories. And it would look all sprawled out all over the place with all the extra add-ons. Now, should you get a Wii? YES! wii kicks ass. Wii gets you girls. Wii is stylish and cute, and the kids will love it. And it's cheap. It's not, however, "next gen." Period.
Yeh but those games, as great as they will be, will still only appeal to the hardcore gamers. They wont really affect the Wii sales, because they are attacking a completely different market.
Whereas 360 and PS3 are in direct combat, the Wii has taken a different route, one where comparisons can't really be made, because there are different audiences involved.
I know there are still the hardcore Nintendo gamers to think about, but i do believe that they have games to cater for them too.

My question is if nintendo can even keep this up. There isn't one game out or one good game thats coming out that's not made by nintendo themselves. Nintendo's like multitasking for their console. All other publishers like ubisoft just make terrible low budget gimmicks for the wii (far cry vengeance) and sell em for full price. Once nintendo goes through every one of their franchises the wii will have nothing left and people will start getting bored of playing the same old stuff from 2 years back. And if you say that red steel is a good game not made by nintendo, then you are officially retarded. So we'll just have to see what nintendo has planned for the future!(if anything)
While everyone is spouting out at the mouth let's get something straight. Wii, currently has the same amount of good games as the PS3 has. It's sold more because obviously it costs nearly a third of the ps3 (not counting this temporary "deal"). Of course the 360 has a lot of games idiots it's been out a year before everyone else. IT BETTER HAVE more than a few good games. And a few good games is pretty much all it has as well, trust me I own all 3 and am currently disappointed in the standings as of RIGHT NOW.
Wii's fun as a party toy but after that, there's not much left to play that I haven't played elsewhere (Looking at you Resident Evil 4). That's when people are going to start turning to the traditional schemes of the PS3s and the 360s. Sometimes you want to come home, relax and play a game without having to jump around the damn living room and have a beat off fest with the controller.
I'm hoping developers give us something else other than circle jerk fests and mario rehashes. But I've got a feeling they're going to take the piss and give us some lame gimmick games and cause the system to slow down into nothingness.
