If you thought Namco Bandai's upcoming action-RPG game God Eater is just another Monster Hunter clone, you got another thing coming. Recently, the games official Japanese site got a huge update showing some brand new gameplay footage of the game. So enough with the screenshots, here comes some brand new Aragami and Fields videos to wet your appetite.

» Awesome!

This game looks promising!

1. Hopefully there are more weapons than the 3-4 I saw on these videos.

2. Wow, you can actually dodge unlike MHFU... =P

3. Swords that change into guns = Awesome!

4. Jump + attack = Sweet!

5. What is that thing that comes out of their weapons and bites the monsters? Is that the "God Eater?"

6. A nice game to play after I'm done with MHFU to wait for another Monster Hunter game either on the PSP or hopefully... THE PS3! =D

7. Need some more gameplay vids!!!

» So...

It's MHFU against enemies that will be cake walks from what those videos portray...sounds fun...if you enjoy easy games like Phantasy Star Portable and the like.

I'm passing on this.

» Sugoi!!!

Hopefully, we get to see an english version on this one. I can't wait for this game.

» @thefinalhero

I dont think people wanna see whoever is playing this getting their ass kicked, rather they would actually like to see the game so its probably on easy. I for one think this game looks sick

» predator form

5. What is that thing that comes out of their weapons and bites the monsters? Is that the "God Eater?"

That would be the so called "Predator Form".

Also, I just noticed from the gameplay videos that you can't sheath or tuck-in your weapons in anyway. You'll just to run around with it, already in stance. That just makes sense with the size of the weapon but it would be cooler if you can sheath-unsheathe it. :) Just my two cents though.

Again, highly anticipating for this game.

English/localize version pl0x Namco Bandai. :)

» Why the hell is it called God eater?

I wonder if its the final boss in the game, who is God himself who tries to Eat you LOL.

And once you kill God, you become the devil, there you go, i have just ruined the game for everyone. :o)

» This looks AMAZING.

I love it!

I just hope that the game play retains that solid feel that MHF Series has. While I think the Phantasy Star was cool, i hated the 'light' and repetitive feeling it has. MHF feels 'epic' in battle. Not just epic music either, when you swing your weapon, you can feel the weight of the sword. I need this game to retain that feeling. This leaves the player with a feeling of accomplishment after slaying said beasts.

» Oooh..

It looks like monster hunter with decent graphics and Phantasy Star-esque speed.

Gameplay looks baller, but I dunno, I'm kinda skeptical. I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be the hour consuming borefest that is MH. We'll see.

» Dodging...

"2. Wow, you can actually dodge unlike MHFU... +P"

If you cant do it in MHFU, I daresay it isn't a problem with the game. Ahem

by junesue1205 - 2009-09-08 21:28
» PSP2 / god eater / mhfu

well

we all basically understand that

MHFU = challenge and lots of hours. it's cool but it's really damn hard. you can dodge, but it's not the SUPER COOL ANIMES STYLE DODGING. the action is cool but it's slow, as in you're slow to attack as well as the monsters. that's kinda what adds on to it's flair i guess though. it's somewhat realistic.

god eater = looks like a bunch of weeaboos are jizzing their pants over this game. it looks fun but it'll be a cakewalk compared to monster hunter. seems like all you do really, seriously, is hit, dash away, hit, dash away, hit dash away, hit dash away, but it's ok since you carry a hueg anime sword and can stare at 3d ayass and tittieth if you want to right? the gameplay seems like it will lack the depth of monster hunter.

phantasy star portable = hurrr this game is easy but some say its fun because of the weapons to collect.

in terms of which game will sell the most?

phantasy star portable 2.

why?

2 words

ad-hoc mode.

» Monster hunter? Solid Controls??!!!

Monster hunter has the most CLUNKY control and response I've ever seen, it is literally repelling the moment you get into actual gameplay. The menus are god awful and unintuitive... It seriously has the feel of a cheap game a 'casual' gamer buys that keeps getting repackaged and pumped out to milk it. Visually, the graphics are great, yes, for psp, but the gameplay, I don't mind grinding, but the combat is slow and boring, and just feels like it might as well have been a turn based rpg. The point of NOT being a turn based RPG is to have fast and strategic combat (i.e., God of War, Devil May Cry). To me Monter Hunter is like taking the sims, giving it a medieval fantasy theme, taking away the customization, aspirations, and etc, and social interaction, and turning it into one task: kill stuff, take the stuff they drop, give it to somebody. Even that wouldn't be ANY problem, if the combat system felt more SOLID and not clunky like a broken clock. end rant. I am ready to deny the MH fanboys attempts to deny all I've just said. =|.

On a much more relevant note, this game looks promising. Just hope the gameplay and controls are more fluent.

» mhf is what a monster slaying game should be

It may have some flaws, here and there but its actually uses the laws of physics from the real word. You cant expect to swing a sword that ways 200 pounds around like a butter knife?? How crappy will that be? you cant expect to swing that same sword and then in less than a sec defend from a monster attack..for you people that dont know about MH play it!! Then use your mind to see MH doesn't deal with magic and gravity defying people with huge asses gun/swords jump almost a 100ft in the air. Its base with normal humans not magical people.

Am not saying this game is bad or anything, it just has its ++'s and --'s.

Dont compare a game like monster hunter with this game its like comparing a dog to a bird. phantasy star is more comparable here.

by WiiRolled - 2009-09-09 05:58
» OK, don't get me wrong

I really find the new graphical style VERY appealing, but it just gets old.

It feels like the devs are resting on their laurels.

by Nine_Masquerade - 2009-09-09 09:09
» Personally

Environments look superb, but what I think is going to really make this game is the score and sound effects. I mean listen to the last two vids. Its amazing.

by sososcary - 2009-09-09 09:22
» The monsters are gods

and you and your team are sent out to get rid of them before they cause more harm to the city. The weapon has a "God Eater" mode where it either does more damage than usual or is the finisher.

by xtatic - 2009-09-09 13:18
» junesue1205... really?

i agree with everything you said up until "two words. ad-hoc" have you never played or read anything about MH? its main appeal is ad-hoc. phantasy star portable is too slow, repetitive for anyone whom is old enough to do long division.

I am a hardcore MH fan but this game looks pretty awesome to me. as for the weapons i am SURE that this company wouldn't be stupid enough to have only a few choices.

I am excited for this game but in the mean time i will be playing MHFU until MH3 comes stateside. PSP2 can eat my nuts

» LoL

Just a few things that need said...

Dont blame the controls because you suck at a game. The controls are fine, as are the menus and the camera control. You either dont know how to use them, or personally dislike them, but what you call "clunky" is actually "balanced". Pros and cons to multiple different classes and types of weapons. As for "casual game" Lmfao, get real man.

I don't see where you would ever put games like GOW or Devil may Cry in the same catagory as MH. They are completely different in purpose, execution, gameplay, visual style, ect. They are not the same kind of game.

You're right - the game is largely repackaged, but each time it is improved and added to. If you are a fan, you appreciate it, if you already dislike it, you'll say that its BS. That said, do I see your point on it.

Lastly, if this will be a good representation of the final product God Eater will be, it looks absolutely horrible. "Clunky" MH combat mechanics, mixed 50/50 with repackaged Dissidia style combat mechanics. The current product looks pretty bad and completely unoriginal so far, to say the least.
