Virtools engine package at work |

The amazing thing about it is the drag-and-drop interface that provides developers a preview window of what they're doing, in real time. Well, we knew that it was quite complicated to explain back then and even now. Developing a game, after all, is no easy task. If it is, then the charm of the homebrew scene will be gone in an instant.
Anyway, to help you better understand why Virtools is a good dev tool, we're sharing with you this clip. It is a short video showing the visual programming of 3D games and the result played on the PSP. Lastly, we were wondering if you guys have any idea what upcoming game is depicted in the video.

Many good projects could be improved with this tool.
Also, they could AT LAST make a good homebrew FPS game (aside PSPDungeos) with Virtools like PSP-Unreal Tournament, PSP-QuakeIIIArena or PSPHalo. :)

Is this for commercial use only or is it gonna be for homebrewers? if it is commercial only, then its a matter of time before we get a pirated/leaked copy. and boy howdy, we will see some AMAZING homebrew games. most suck as is...cheap GFX anyways. but this would make the PSP open up wider than ever. imagine how many homebrewers will REMAKE popular games? it seems with these tools you could literally remake friggin MARIO 64 or even the first RESIDENT EVIL. i was in a crap mood and this for some reason just made me happy as shiz.

Can they actually attach other games' objects and sprites into homebrew (not GBA ones like they do)???

"i promise i'm going to be a psp 3D developper so i can mke some deasent games"
You might want to learn to spell before you become a 3d developer, bud.
And by the looks of the program, it's a bit harder to understand than "drag and drop".

There are certainly a virtools player for PSP!!!
I don't know where virtools use the PSP sdk but it's logical that it's necessary to develloped game with "Virtools Dev" otherwise virtools is sworn enemy of sony!!!
nota bene: virtools = dassault and dassault is friendly with microsof bur microsoft and sony....

virtools got bought by dassault (big 3d software company for aerospace/hardware) sometime in the last year, and since then have not said anything about the psp kit, though i did still see it at their trade show booth in august
the software isn't cheap (~9k), and you need a psp dev kit currently to use it

Sony says that you need at least to burn several 10k discs - so its not for niche products with only a few hundred or thousand units.
So it looks like you need
- DEV
- PSP DEV extension
- code warrior (for custom BBs, Manager extensions? building the player?)
- a game design doc that fits Sony's criteria
- intention to produce at least several 10k units
- Sony PSP dev kit
- (several published games in the portfolio?)
which is a bit of a shame, because it is feasible for 1-3 people to make a reasonably interesting game concept in virtools
only game i saw in the virtools dev forums was http://www.twelvegames.com/crashdummy/ & http://www.twelvegames.com/crashdummy/PSP_BossLevel.wmv

This is not for homebrew development.

Not to mention it looks like you need the full PSP devkit and SDK to play/test the applications you create with it.

But yeah this would be a cool thing for devs to use.

This for commercial developers you have the offical SN Systems Dev Kit and Dev Hardware to run it on.
This is NOT for people who have next to no idea on how to develop or people who are expecting to make full games in a day.
In short. This is not for home development. Period.
