VGCharts: Wii just 1.28 million behind Xbox 360 - Image 1

Hot in the news is the estimated worldwide sales numbers for Nintendo's new-gen console, which just hit a mark less than two million to the Xbox 360's current sales count. The Wii is now just 1.28 million units shy of taking the lead in the hardware base establishment race, reports VG Chartz, a source for worldwide console sales.

And what's more, third-party onlookers note that if this month's sales continue in similar numbers, the Wii could well zoom over all the high-powered next-gen consoles in eight to nine weeks or late August 2007. If rendered true, the Wii will have swatted all console race analysts' predictions to date. The Nintendo DS still outruns the PlayStation Portable, while the PlayStation 3 is slowly making its way up in its ten-year marathon.

However, numbers in Nexgen Wars have different estimates for the worldwide sales for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. So it would appear that nothing is etched in stone until the three console companies come forward with their quarterly sales numbers, hopefully at the same time they release their Q3 2007 financial performance reports.

Consoles (numbers in millions):

Xbox 360 - Worldwide: 10.13; Japan: 0.41; America: 6:47; Others: 3.25
PlayStation 3 - Worldwide: 3.61; Japan: 0.98 ; America: 1.56; Others: 1.07
Wii - Worldwide: 8.85; Japan: 2.91; America: 3.57; Others: 2.37

Handhelds (numbers in millions):

DS - Worldwide: 45.36; Japan: 18.01; America: 13.03; Others: 14.32
PSP - Worldwide: 22.34; Japan: 5.71; America: 8.58; Others: 8.05

» ha

funny.. only reason wii is 1.28 million units short of xbox is because nintendo can't put em out fast enough.

by PsPoPPer - 2007-07-05 12:27
» yea

wii is going to kill the 360. I sorta like the ps3 but my parents would not like me to buy anything over 400$

by Seoulfood - 2007-07-05 12:33
» hmm

PS3 numbers don't add up.

Also to the poster above, with the $100 price cut, you can get a $400 20GB PS3. But I'm not sure if they still sell those.

by Quixand - 2007-07-05 12:35
» Wait a FUC*KING MINUTE!!!

am i reading this right???

in America it's an identical 3.57 million for both the wii and the PS3??????

that surprised me... i know there are production problems for Nintendo but is it that bad that their unit sales is just equal a console which is three times its price???

they should change their distribution strategy since there are loads of Wiis in stores here in Australia.

Wii is the only system selling somewhat evenly all over the world. It's on a self sustaining hype train. It's selling well, people here it's selling well so it must be popular, they buy it and add to the sales then other people hear how well it's doing and buy it and contribute to the numbers and it grows.

I think Nintendo might have this generation down completely. Next cycle will be really interesting...

by Goglu666 - 2007-07-05 12:59
» Wrong numbers

There's only about 1.6 million PS3 sold im American Territory. The numbers arent right but the totals seems ok.

The Wii is selling like crazy, the only thing it does is push back the next gen era. It shows that next gen is for the future. Right now, and for the years to come, I guess Nintendo will lead by

1- It's console sales

2-It's first party game (they got a lot of those)

They might be able to put out a next gen console before the generatgion to come. But who knows...

if you align the consoles up based on their release date, then the PS3 and Xbox 360 are going at the exact same pace, and the Wii is completely dominating. It looks just like the other graph does of the xbox, PS2, and gamecube, only on that one the PS2 dominated and the xbox and gamecube were neck-in-neck.

by . - 2007-07-05 13:02
» To Quixand

Thats a typo. The PS3 has only sold 1.56 units in america. The numbers didint add up in this post anyway. Also did anyone notice how the 10 highest ranked games are all Nintendo games at VGchartz.com?

Its all hype right now... Once people realize that every other person owns the thing, they won't feel so special owning one and will care less to play it... Honestly though, I have a large number of friends who own the Wii since the first month, and they talked about it for the first week and never mentioned it again. Maybe if the Wii came out with some good games, it would be better...but only having Zelda out right now...its not really worth it.

by Razgoull - 2007-07-05 13:18
» BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SONY WILL DROP THE PRICE OF THE PS3 TO 499$ on July 12.

ALL game stores have receive a mail to a 100$ price drop. My friend work at gamestop/ebgames.

by qw - 2007-07-05 13:21
» Yes, more games plz

I'm not exactly unsatisfied with my purchase, it was only $250 and I played Zelda for 50 hours, but the lack of games is starting to piss me off. Hopefully a ton of good ones come out for the holidays. The only thing I have now is RE4, and I never played it on PS2 or GC so it's basically a Wii killer-app for me, but that still only makes two.

by Gokujohn - 2007-07-05 13:42
» true.........for me

I liked my wii, bu it got old fast. and mini games do not make a console. I have three games so far and don't plan on getting others any time soon. It was a steal for 250 but c'mon nintendo where are the "hard core" games.

by sinjinn - 2007-07-05 13:44
» ,,

nintendo have a seperate market from the other two consoles. they've created a budget console.

the true next gen console title is still up for grabs and the most likely winner will probably be sony since xbox 360 is not selling well in japan.

by the middle of 2008 the ps3 will be in good shape as long as some good games hit.

by Bearmon - 2007-07-05 13:56
» nah

I dont believe this stupid vg charts. They are so untrue.

by ME - 2007-07-05 13:58

interesting the Wii and PS3 are tied in the US.

by Extinction - 2007-07-05 14:08
» ACK!

I am afraid for the sake of gaming. If Wii dominates, I would rather give up games altogether than resport to playing that pile of crap

by gamerprops3 - 2007-07-05 14:18
» Ps3 on par with X360

Any one interested in comparing XBOX 360 and PS3, just use any image editor and overlap the worms for PS3 and XBOX 360.

Here is the result the PS3 is almost identical in sales to the XBOX 360.

This means that the sales figures for PS3 from its launch period is a equal to what the XBOX sold in the same time frame from its launch.

Considering that the 360 had no competition from any other console during that time, and the PS3 had all the other N-Gen console to fight against. Looks like the PS3 numbers are a lot more valuable that they seem.

Sony in the long run will definitely surpass X360.

XBOX360 fans have a go at me :-(

i guess it's up to one man in a helmet to take on the wii battle...

let's see if he can hold off the wii.

» Pride

I'm proud of you guys. Here is a post that shows how one system as of right now is completely dominating, and no flame wars. A proud day in video game history.

I think it is difficult to say where this console war is headed until the so called "Wii Hype" is over.

by afllaf - 2007-07-05 15:41
» LOL @ last place losers

I feel sorry for anyone who bought a PS3

by crzycop - 2007-07-05 16:01

It is completely true, and a little shocking (the PS3 is selling faster than the Xbreak 360, it will pass the 4 million mark quicker)

You are not reading that right. you are reading the PS3 world wide sales and the Wii's North America sales.

goto nexgenwars.com

they have more accurate numbers

I'm gonna argue that Wii isnt a hype...I mean they only have like 2 or 3 good games right now....when it gets the big 3 plus Night and No more heroes...plus other killer 3rd party apps (Dragon blade looks awesome)....THEN it'll do a complete ps2....

by Quixand - 2007-07-05 17:01
» no man

there was a typo earlier... they changed it.

lthere are a couple of comments below as well saying that's it's a typo...

surprised the hell out of me.

» Dumb or what?

Oh so don't measure European sales then?

We apparently had more PS3's sold in Europe

than America..

In other words the "others" should be well over 1.07..

But then again, i'm sure u.s can even count to

ten without missing 7, 5 or 3...

» not quite...

A lot of people believed sony's hype and thought the PS3 would be better than the 360. Well everyone was quickly brought back down to earth when they realized the PS3's hardware was less powerful yet more expensive than the 360's released a year before. Also there were no games which didn't help any.

Besides it's obvious the 360 is still selling at a faster rate, and it's headstart will ensure it stays in the lead.

by Maz - 2007-07-06 04:20

Dont go to nexgenwars, it has a trojan .

by Thabor - 2007-07-06 05:52
» Align..

Or you could just use the VGCharts feature to align the graphs..

They are running neck an neck for sales since launch in spite of the higher price point for PS3. MCS doesn't understand how to read a graph, so don't expect it to mean anything to him.

by Shatterdome - 2007-07-06 08:03
» I doubt it...

Wii will "win" in term of sales....hell I know fully that I would not even play it that much. I would only play it when buddies are over drinking...yet as soon as I can walk into a store and buy one I am going to, as it's just too cheap not too and also it will shut the GF up.

I know of lot's of 360 users also buying a wii because it's different and cheap. They with everyone else and their dog buying one....yeah it will destroy.

They probably would have already outsold them if they could produce more.

Halo 3 will sell some 360's, but I think all the hardcore halo fans already have 360's....I only have one friend in my gamming circle that is picking up a 360 for H3....so MAYBE an extra 500,000 console flux when H3 comes out....not a biggie.

by WiiCool - 2007-07-06 08:14

» YOU'RE FORGETTING

the ps3 didn't have Europe until march also, you see a big spike in sales for that month!

by To ME - 2007-07-06 13:10
» Not quite, sir.

The Wii's US number is tied with the PS3's global number. Not between the US sales numbers of both.

However, your point still stands. It's remarkable (and funny) that the PS3's global sales numbers match that of the Wii with the US alone. Especially considering it's not doing too poorly in the other countries!
