Nonaka Ryutaro, the producer for Sega's Valkyria Chronicles, has told Famitsu before that they're interested in doing a sequel for the critically-lauded tactical RPG-slash-third-person shooter. The very same magazine has now revealed that there is indeed a sequel coming, but it won't be for the PS3.

According to a Famitsu translation from PSPHyper, the next chapter in the Valkyria Chronicles saga has been confirmed to be a PSP title called Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy. Turns out that editing mistake that Sony made at last year's E3 was actually kinda prophetic.

The sequel will be set two years after the first game. The setting will be a Gallian school named Randgriz Royal Academy where the hero is a probational officer forced into action when civil war erupts. Some of the new characters are profiled below.

The original game's BLiTZ system has been enhanced for the sequel along with the leveling up system. Camouflage will play a larger role in battles and so will tanks. The number of custom parts for the latter have also been increased. Multiplayer has yet to be confirmed, but PSPHyper notes that there are hints that point towards it.

What hasn't changed is the development team. The PS3 team is still handling dev work for this one, so we can expect quality near the original. The Canvas rendering engine has also been adapted to work for the PSP and will be used in Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy.

Senjou no Valkyria 2 Gallia Royal Academy is slated for a fall release in Japan. If you liked the PS3 original, better hope like hell that they decide to release this title overseas as well.

Yet. I've just been too busy with other games to get to it yet. Plan to give it a go someday, great to hear more awesomeness is coming PSP way.

» awesome

The ps3 one was amazing. The psp one will probably look like Megaman Legends 2 but im ok with that. Cell shaded type graphics havent been used enough on the psp.
