Have you ever been miffed while playing because your Sony PlayStation Portable's battery life failed to last through the seemingly endless hours playing? Those days of protracted gaming may soon be over with Sony's recent revelation of its PSP Extended Life Battery kit and covers for both the old version of the PSP and the PSP Slim and Lite.

Compatible for both the PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 models, the 2200 mAh battery will provide the old version of the PSP a significant 20% addition to the phat PSP's battery life while the PSP Slim battery life will be increased by 80%, ensuring gamers even longer hours of game play than before.

This is good news indeed since the older version of the PSP only averaged an approximate 11 hours of battery life. On the other hand, although the PSP Slim and Lite was initially believed to consume more battery power than the first version, updated articles later confirmed that both the consoles used up the same amount of power.

On the down side though, the new battery kit will slightly bulge out if inserted in the PSP Slim and Lite. Sony will be providing special covers for the new batteries, though the Star Wars Ceramic White version doesn't have an available updated battery cover available at the moment.

UPDATE: Sony Computer Entertainment America Senior Marketing Manager for the PSP John Koller has just updated the official PlayStation Blog, finally informing the consumers regarding the Extended Life Battery Kit's pricing and release date.

Accordingly, this new product from Sony will be released during mid-December with a suggested retail price of US$ 44.99.

by califrag - 2007-11-27 21:40:54
lol

lame.. the battery was released ages ago it's just the 2200 mAH stamina battery. the only thing "new" about this is they are releasing it as a "kit" for the Slim and Lite with a battery cover that fits PHAT batteries. They should have just made a 2200 mAH slim battery!!! stupid sony..
by ed.rodz017 - 2007-11-27 21:54:24

Old news.

This is not new, it has just been repackaged... I have that battery in my PSP right now, and have so since May of this year. ( It's called the "STAMINA Battery" ) As you can see it holds 2200mAH instead of 1800mAH which means about 20% extra juice out of it each round... it's pretty decent in comparison... ( But it WAS $50, and i only got it because i had a EB Games voucher and I already had every PSP game.

jesus..

GO QJ... for getting the biggest *****ing pictures on the internet!
by redbrick - 2007-11-28 00:33:58
Wierd, I thought they were Lipo Batteries already.

Yeah Lipo's would be awesome... but can be dangerous.. My Trex SE uses Lipo...but I can only fly it for 7-8 mins at a time.
by lazuli - 2007-11-28 02:17:27
hmmm

how come the pic says 3.6mah?

Stop hiring newbies to write articles

Making a mistake in writing article is bad enough, but this article is full of mistakes. The author is either a newbie who has never touched a PSP, or he is a moron and doesn't know what he is talking about. Is it that difficult for QJ to hire someone who owns a PSP or at least know how to do research before writing articles. Let's get the facts straight. 1) The original PSP doesn't has an average battery life of 11 hours. Average life with standard 1800mAh battery only last around 4-6 hours during normal gameplay. 2) Making a statement like "PSP Slim and Lite was initially believed to consume more battery power than the first version". The author of this article is the only fool who initially believes this. Technology only advances to reduce battery usage, not the other way around. This is common sense. Everyone knows that before the Slim is even out. 3) The author says "updated articles later confirmed that both the consoles used up the same amount of power." Geez, what kind of bull***** is that, if there exists such an article with false information, an ordinary PSP user can tell this is not true. The Slim consumes less power and it uses a 1200mAh battery to deliver around the same playtime as the original PSP with a 1800mAh. If they consumes the same power, how can the Slim last as long as the original PSP with a smaller battery. QJ, pls do us a favor and stop publishing these kind of craps.

by Evilgb - 2007-11-28 07:41:05
wrong battery!

that's the wrong battery retard! the one you linked was the old one, it's the "NEW" battery this is about.
by Missa - 2007-11-28 09:24:45
Deal Extreem

The slim cover they are selling on deal extreem for 3 bucks with shipping fits my slim great and I am already using one of these 2200 batteries in it. I would never, ever go back to the origional slim 1200 battery unless it was a major emergency since I can now use one of my 1800 batteries in the PSP slim also. Slim + Fat Battery = W1N!
by alexoi - 2007-11-28 09:36:13
Yeah you are right

NEW BATTERY

fakes

My ebay friend (the one who creates pandora kits) told me that about 6/7 batteries he bought turned out to be fakes. The ones advertised as 3600 mAH were not only counterfeit, they also lasted about 3/4 the time that the originals lasted. Not saying all the dirt cheap batteries are fakes, just that the majority of them are. Besides, dealextreme.com offers some great extended life batteries (9800 mAh. Haven't bought one yet, so I can't tell if they're really that powerful or not). Only problem is that the batteries are external. You connect the battery via the charger slot. Also, I bet these are not pandora compatible. BOOO!!!!
by iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-28 14:07:47
also...

"only 11 hours of gameplay"?! Ok, no offense guys, but you REALLY need to get a life if you play your PSP 11 hours straight on the go... I mean, even if you are "loserish" enough to play for 11 hours at home, just keep it plugged in during your play time. But, come on... are you seriously going to be playing for 11 hours straight when you're outside? If so, please get a life! Even I, the forum lurker, appear to have a bigger life than any of you who play a game for 11 hours straight outside/on the go....
by iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-28 14:09:16
lol

I buyed it too, but then I decided to selled it back. :p
by enigmaticdude - 2007-11-28 14:41:16
WhaT?

Doesn't anyone think that the price of this battery with the cover is a bit too expensive?
by Zocks2099 - 2007-11-28 14:42:05
please

No insults! :P And what is so new ??? What does this Battery have what the one from 2005 doesnt have????
by satana - 2007-11-28 15:05:06

by GW2 - 2007-11-28 15:53:35
@iamback

by spoonman - 2007-11-28 16:03:41
OLD OLD OLD!!!!

I've have had this in my PSP for nearly 2 years now... bah
by Dekabreak - 2007-11-28 17:35:59
umm...

Apparently, iamback is on his chair, doing some of his spamming and advertising. And from looking at these batteries, they are pandora proof. I careless.
by Dekabreak - 2007-11-28 17:38:21
Ahem.

Then do you want to be the admin of QJ attention whore?
by arg - 2007-11-28 17:43:11
WOW QJ

Really got on the ball with this one... how long ago was this out again??
by shrimpdude - 2007-11-28 18:33:44
Er...

If they could make a 2200mAh battery that was small enough to fit inside the slim, they would have. I mean, there's a reason why the slim's smaller sized battery is also lower capacity - because the technology used only permits so many mAh per cubic centimetre. Hell, if they had improved the technology enough to fit a 2200mAh battery in the slim, we'd probably have an official 3300mAh battery for the phat by now.
by destructive_cow - 2007-11-28 21:20:30
i bet

that it is made pandora proof, and advertizing it now so that people will buy it who didnt know about it before
by El Xando - 2007-11-29 12:18:02
^ That and

They're re-releasing it and acting as if it was never released before because it never became very popular. So people will be like WHOA 20% MORE BATTERY LEGEND!!!!111 When really it's been out years and you can infact get what is contained in this bundle for a mere $10 on some sites. It's a desperate companies cry out for money after releasing a failed console.
by bottmint - 2007-12-03 09:44:02
@ Dekabreak

>>Ahem. Then do you want to be the admin of QJ attention whore? HAHAHAHA that made me laugh funniness

Re: Next comment.... Thank you!

My fat's 1800mAh has recently been dying. Just ordered a 2200mAh from dealextreme for $7.10, free shipping, no tax! the 1800mAh was a US launch day battery, barely holds a charge for ~10 minutes now at minimum brightness. Already pandora'd it, now I can use the 2200mAh to play! Thanks, El Xando, for posting http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2135
