PlayStation Portable firmware 3.71 out now - Image 1Originally posted Sep 12, 2007 at 08:47PM

Well, just as its big brother's firmware update went live, the PSP's update wasn't far behind. Firmware 3.71 has just gone live in all regions so you might want to check it out.

We're still waiting for a changelog as most of you might be very interested as to what Sony has prepared for us. As PSN Operations Eric Lempel said in the PlayStation Blog the last time: "We are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested."

While we scrounge around for those changes, better keep it here for more updates.

Faster anybody can say, "firmware update", we've got changelog for PSP firmware 3.71. Some of the changes were actually carried over from the previous update so we have the new changes in bold:
  • Revisions to strengthen security have been added
  • The number of PLAYSTATION Network titles that can be played under [Game] has increased
  • A correction has been made to the settings for some regions
  • You can now set custom themes in [Theme Settings] under [Settings]
  • Support has been added for assigning buttons in [Remote Play]
  • A scene search feature has been added under [Video]
  • Sequential playback is now supported under [Video]
  • Simultaneous playback of content hunder [Music] and [Photo] is now supported
  • A correction has been made to the settings for some regions

*UPDATE* Oh-kay, so we were going about the internet and checking out the changes that came with the PlayStation Portable's latest firmware update, 3.71, and guess what we found? The Japanese changelog wasn't much help. Here's why:
  • There is no modification in for the Japanese system software.
The changelog we posted earlier most probably sent a number of eyebrows into orbit. Will firmware 3.71 block out Pandora? We're sure a lot of you are curious about the "revisions to strengthen security" line and are a bit... well, curious. We'll be keeping a close eye on further developments so stay right where you are.

I don't think Sony can do anything to stop the Pandoras battery from working. It is not in the firmware (Service Mode).

by Hans! - 2007-09-12 18:16
» Pandora should work

Pandora's Battery will work on it and will do it in the future firmware updates, because, in service mode, the firmware does not boot (or how do you think pandora "runs" in a bricked psp???).

by LordSturm - 2007-09-12 18:18
» Hmm...

They can only make life harder, there is no way to completely block it out.

Because the PANDORA access's hardware, which is independent of the NAND's contents, updates cannot modify the hardware.

by jnwpse - 2007-09-12 19:37
» Not upgrading

Sounds great.Best update for a while....but if i cant play my backups im not doing it.TEAM M33 GET EM

by PSP NIKOS - 2007-09-12 20:01

If you're already on custom firmware 3.52m33-4, there's no need for you to "upgrade" to official firmware, unless you dont want homebrew running on your PSP. I sense you're a total beginner on this, so it's best not to mess with your current settings (esp. firmware upgrades) without reading up on this site and asking people who flock this space.

» Thanks!

You gave me all the info i need, thanks!

» ...

Sony is just doing this to confuse n00bs with 2.71. So the n00bs can't downgrade (without pandora).

by urherenow - 2007-09-13 01:49
» couldn't upgrade from CFW anyway...

you'll get an error (DADADADA) on your PSP if you try. You're stuck until you upgrade to a new CFW or you Downgrade first.

by JaXeRiR - 2007-09-13 02:16
» Don't you think that

if Sony wanted/could patch the Pandora's battery thingy, they would have already done it? Not by doing some new firmwares and then remembering, "Oh yeah, now I remember! We had to patch the firmware somehow not to allow service mode batteries to be used!" and then they would release 3.71.

My guess is that this might have something to do with the new features, like the themes being a possible exploit.

by Hans! - 2007-09-13 03:49
» yes, you can

of course you can. If you want to enjoy homebrew on your psp, you should think on a custom firmware, like the 3.52 m33-4 you already have.

3.52 M33-4 is a great choice.

by Bandock - 2007-09-13 06:30
» Theme Exploit

Yeah, it might be because of a possible theme exploit like you just said. Any new feature they add, usually has at least a single exploit anyway.

by DuRoLuRo - 2007-09-13 07:35
» sounds cool

i'm gonna make a pandora battery now, and try this cool firmware!

by hrp95 - 2007-09-13 08:18
» ...

i am kinda confused that team m33 hasent hacked it yet because i think 2.60 was probably harder to hack but they did it before the oficial release of psp slim

by hakk3r - 2007-09-13 08:59
» I downgraded 3.71

IT WORKS!! pandora works!! (on the fat psp)

by FreePlay - 2007-09-13 10:07
» Change list is wrong

Between 3.70 and 3.71, this is the ONLY change:

A correction has been made to the settings for some regions.

by FreePlay - 2007-09-13 10:12
» Also

'Will firmware 3.71 block out Pandora?'

Firmware cannot block out Pandora. Pandora does its magic BEFORE the firmware is EVER loaded.

Pandora is unblockable.

» .

*knocks on wood*

by FreePlay - 2007-09-13 13:28
» No.

No knocking on wood.

The Pandora works with NOTHING ON THE FLASH.

So it MUST work with ANY firmware.

by Binary - 2007-09-13 13:57

also it will downgrade ANY firmware so you noobs stop moaning.

i sepnt all of yeaterday downgrading and upgrading and it works on pretty much all of them (didn't try 1.50 as that is what it downgrades to)

by PSP NIKOS - 2007-09-13 20:27
» duh

you use pandora's battery to get to 1.50 then go to 3.71

by PSP NIKOS - 2007-09-13 20:30
» WTF!

the first ever downgrade i did was with 2.71

i used a .tiff exploit in an image
