UK Conservative Party renews call against "violent video games"

UK Conservative Party's renewed call against The video game industry has had a lot of problems lately with the different government bodies around the world. This has been an ongoing debate for so long now and it seems that it is not going to stop any time soon. Today, members of the UK government has once again launched a movement about the same.

According to UK Conservative Party Leader David Cameron, the developers of video games have the responsibility not to promote certain issues such as "casual violence, the gang culture and the degradation of women". Cameron further explained:

We are never going to deal with crime unless we look at the broader context and say, "Yes, tough laws, strong action on the police, but also action to strengthen our society". And that includes, I think, video games and things like that where we do need to think of the context in which people are growing up.

Cameron added that this call also goes for other forms of artistic expression, such as as films and music. The British Parliament has been vocal lately about its stance on "violent video games". It should be remembered that parliament member Keith Vaz wanted bigger ratings labels on games.

» All Hail Violence!!

We have a rating system for a reason, so that parents can decide what their children should have and to keep retailers from selling to children. These *****ers want to keep this out of the hands of children, but the parents are the ones buying the games for their kids, it's a personal choice, most retailers won't sell these kinds of games to kids anyway. These bastards don't want anyone to have these games, even adults. They are coming real close to trampling certain constitutional rights and if they continue this course, they will do so. I don't know what the UK laws say about freedom of press or speech, but I'm almost guaranteed those things are protected under law.

its a new story about this crap every day i`m sick of hearing about it, just stop posting the news about these idiots complaining about violence in games then maybe they will shut up on their own.

» Agreed

It's like they want to destroy the adult market completely and doesn't mind destroying our rights at the same time. Doesn't much sound like a democracy to me but a communistic state.

» end times.

Since the advent of adult violent games the rate of adult violence had declined so much so that it has been deemed a form of therapy, anger management if you will. You take a boxers punching bag away and what will he do, start beating the crap out of people! I'm a republican and a conservative but this is down right un-constitutional. They take our therapy away and the very first thing they will find is a bunch of filled body bags in the UK parliament. It is time to say enough is enough and to start building a militia to take out these treasonous members of state. Just keep it up UK conservatives, and you'll find your selves lying in a pool of your own blood.

"Just keep it up UK conservatives, and you'll find your selves lying in a pool of your own blood."

I think you're provoking them. See, if video game players threaten violence against people who want to ban them, what does that mean?

It really doesn't matter what david cameron thinks. Nobody likes him, he's an arrogant posh git. And who votes conservative anyway? lol.

Yet another politician that completely ignores the fact that some games are rated M or AO (here in the US) for a reason, and that it's the *PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY* to monitor what their child takes in from whatever medium he happens to be using, whether that be TV, music, the Internet, or video games.

It is not the developers responsibility to make sure kids are raised without any violent or sexual imagery in any game, it's the *PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY* to make sure that games that are not intended for their kids are not seen or played by their kids.

» What a load of crap

They should tackle the real roots of violence, anti social behaviour, assualt and crime. Video games have little to do with it. If they had real judges, tougher laws and zero tolerance do you really think there would be such a level of violent crime?

These idiots really need to get their priorities right and stop using video games as a way to pass the buck or as a scape goat.

» Cameron = *****

He is just stupid. In the UK, he's a joke, so no one has to worry about him getting to power.

by Ash - 2007-08-29 09:17
» Conservative

Why is QJ even posting this, NO ONE in the UK pays attention to this idiot. You see, we complain and moan about our Goverment and Labor, but at the end of the day, they are the best we've got. Never again will Conservatives get into power, they *****ed up the UK In the 70s, 80s and lay dorm in the 90s until Labor kicked their ass in polls. They've *****ed up before and they obviously want to ***** it up again by banning video games and taking away more of our rights. They may be bad but Labor for the win!

» WTF

Yeah and I bet he never played on video games when he was young, what an idiot.

If someone was to ask him if he played video games when he was young he'd be sure to say yes (hell he's conservative his family must have been loaded since that party seems to have no idea how hard living in poverty really is.) I wonder if he thinks video games had an input onto the out come of his life?
