Ubisoft files trademark for "Assassin" |
Ó
If there's any publisher out there right now that comes to mind with the word, "Assassin," it's Ubisoft, referring of course to its Assassin's Creed franchise. Interestingly enough, the publisher was spotted filing for a trademark for the word, and seeing as they already have ones for Assassin's Creed, it's time for another guessing game as to what this one is for.
The trademark, filed last October 15th, was submitted under the signature of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. The interesting part of the document reads:
Entertainment services namely providing an on-line computer game for others over global and local area computer networks and providing information on-line relating to computer games, video games and computer and video games related products; entertainment services namely television action series and the production of motion pictures.
Like I said, it's a guessing game, seeing as these patents are so vague when it comes to details. It could be a game with online and LAN gameplay, or it could have something to do with an Assassin TV show or a movie. It could be anything at this point, especially when you consider that the recently opened Ubisoft Toronto studio is set to work on books, comics, short films, and other products.

So there making a Assassin franchise like COD....Hmm.....
They won't get the trademark. You can't patent/trademark a single word that you yourself (or your company) didn't create. Same reason Trump couldn't trademark/patent the phrase "You're Fired."
tim langdell got "edge" though
You can trademark a single word but only if you describe the context it'll be used for, i mean Peugeot trademarked the number 0 but only when it's surrounded by 2 other numbers
There already is a game called Assassin, developed by Team 17 I believe.
I hope this frivolous patent doesn't work.
