We Are PlayStation - Image 1

Say "cheese!" Here's a chance to prove your photography skills (outside of MGS, at least). PlayStation Europe is holding a contest to look for the best "PlayStation moment" from its fans.

And what is a PlayStation moment? Basically a Kodak moment that involves anything and everything with a PlayStation. It could be while you're playing the PS3 or going ad hoc with your friends via PSP. It can involve the PS2, sure; maybe even PSOne if you still have your loyalties from back then.

You're trying to capture the essence of the PlayStation spirit here. And you can even land your photo in an official Sony ad too! All you have to do is upload your picture on the We Are PlayStation contest website. The contest ends on March 16, 2009. The prizes are pretty sweet too:
  • One grand final winner: €1000 and a Sony D-SLR A350 camera and lens
  • 10 runners-up: €100
  • 100 third-place runners-up: a PlayStation game or PS Store voucher
There's quite a lot of rules and qualifications for the contest - ex. rules about staging a shot or excessive manipulating of photos - so I suggest you check out the details for the contest first (see Via link) before you start going paparazzi on your friends.

Meh

It's a decent idea actually as far as a marketing exercise goes. Fact is, by and large the public consumer base have become fairly cynical and jaded in modern times and are quite awake to the psychological manipulation of tradition marketing methods. A lot of the future marketing has to be more subtle in order to have an impact but marketing companies are still trying to find their feet in how to best do it. They have realised that marketing via a faceless company isn't working so they're starting to move towards marketing through more trusted mediums (ie friends and peers) and use all sorts of tricks in that arena. With viral marketing starting to be frowned upon, it would seem they're having a crack here at being open about it and letting the people decide what they're going to respond to. It's not a bad idea actually, from both a curious about psychology standpoint as much as marketing. The whole 'competition' aspect of marketing nowadays seems to be the latest fad. I'm sure you all know about the 'Best job in the world' campaign for Hamilton island which goes along similar lines - Big competition with a great prize that everyone wants, but ultimately is a marketing ploy getting people to talk about the product. Same thing here really. It's subtle, but when you scratch the surface you can clearly see it for what it is.

lame

After finally locating the terms and conditions (they could have made that a bit easier), it's only available to European countries. The US is NOT allowed to participate.

What if....

Someone had a face fit for radio, does that disqualifies that person from the contest? XD

Oh rly?

Sherlock, let me tell you something. EVERY competition or lottery is for marketing purposes. There are no companies saying "Hey let's start a competition because we all love our fans want to give them a present". Sure, you have explained well how marketing has changed, but you don't need to go through all that logic argumentation since it's obvious.
