PS3 Xmas wishlist - Image 1Looks like the numbers are going up for Sony, and we all know numbers don't lie. Yesterday, NPD released the hardware sales numbers for August, and we saw Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3 neck and neck.

The report said that the PlayStation 3 sales were at 185, 400, while the Xbox 360 had 195, 200. However, Sony would like to differ, saying that these numbers do not necessarily take into account the whole PlayStation hardware lineup which includes the PS3, PS2 and PSP.

According to Sony's math, total sales for their PS hardware would be up to 582,000. Meanwhile, on a Year-to-date figure, the company said that the PS brand would have already generated nearly US$ 3.7 billion in revenue, showing a 21% increase year-on-year.

Jack Tretton, SCEA's CEO, is looking very happy with these statistics. He says:

We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, which validates that consumers are indeed recognizing the long-term value that PS3 offers as both gaming and home entertainment device.

We have also began shipping the new 80GB PS3 model in late August to address any short term inventory transitions from the 40GB to 80GB model.

But while they're obviously pleased with the ongoing campaign of the PS3, the CEO says that he's looking forward to what the Holidays will bring. On their end, they're promising a string of games or "unmatched content" for the consumers.

These titles are expected to be heavy-hitters, like LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.

» very nice.

I love the attempt to hide the fact that the PS3 is under-preforming by bundling it with the PSP (which seems to be on a surge now) and the monster that is the PS2.

It's good press to handle it this way, but it doesn't really address the PS3 problem. For the second year in a row they claimed this to be the "Year of the PS3", yet the PS3 continues to either slightly beat, or slightly lose out to the 360.

Personally, i was hoping for a better effort than this. At this point in the console's cycle it should be walking all over the 360.

Better hardware & BluRay should = Domination. Somebody in marketing is facking this one up pretty bad.

» Yep!

Jack and Sony, you guys rocks.

Sony going to sale big with its 80GB this holiday season.

Next year I'm going to buy the 80 or 160GB PS3, because I own a 40GB.

Peace Out !!!

» get the 80GB

and buy a larger internal HDD. In the UK, the 80GB PS3 + a 320GB 2.5" SATA will be the same price as the 160GB PS3.

» LMAO indeed

I kinda liked what you wrote Xis, but silver-tiger has a point. You should make some sentences... maybe even a paragraph or two.

Sony's biggest bogey is the price. Drop that sukka another $100 and it'll be all smiles across the board.

It's obvious when big hitting games like MGS4 and GT5P come along that sales jump like crazy and Sony has a continual line up of stunning games coming along.

» Oh btw

Where do I get a santa pimped out ps3?

» Nice spin....

It's amazing how Nintendo is easily outselling the brand with the Wii alone; throw in the DS and Nintendo is having a party.

by pspablo - 2008-09-13 01:26
» Nintendo... that's another story

The big N went for 2 things in this generation.

1- Give a lot of people a reason for gaming, so they could have...

2- More Money $$$

I have a wii, but it's chipped. So I can buy games for 5$ here (they sell them at the park near my house xDDD )
