Girl Gamers

Game developers are starting to recognize the fact that girl gamers are becoming an increasingly significant market, leading to a number of gender-specific releases. In Japan, pre-teen and adolescent girls recently had a chance to try out the PSP game Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side: Second Kiss after waiting with baited breath for months.

InTokimeki Memorial, girls play the main character who is a student of Habataki High School. The aim is to develop a character so charming as to get one of the boys to fall in love with her. Players have a choice of 200 outfits and numerous accessories to wear on dates. These can be purchased in-game with virtual currency earned with a part-time job. There are ten male characters to pursue and four female characters who may help and advise the player - or become her rival.

In a related story, hordes of love-struck Japanese girls descended upon Tokyo's Akihabara Station where publisher Konami sponsored a special preview of the dating sim game, not scheduled for release until August 3. Ten gaming stations were set up, and girls were allowed only ten minutes before being "pried kicking and screaming" from the controller. Girls awaiting their turn were given Tokimeki Memorial tests. Those who scored 80% or higher were given a game poster.

Apparently, three different tests had to be distributed to prevent cheating.

Ingame Secrets

Listen up all you girls who want to play this: here's a little trick you can do to win the game in less than a minute. First, make sure your character is good looking. Seeing as how this is a video game, it shouldn't be a problem. Next, go to the outfit selection menu, and select "completely nude". After doing this, all the boy characters will instantly fall in love with you if you just walk past them. Also, some of the girl characters will do the same. Hope this helps.

It probably won't get translated because dating sims have no market outisde of Japan, and games for girls in general aren't a good marketing idea.
by - 2006-07-05 07:56:16
only in Japan

Totally Lame!!!!!!!!!!!!! These games will never sell outside Japan, because they just plain suck!

Tips

when will R kelly's dating sim come out??? it is supposed to have the most computer rendered urine ever used in a video game.. I give my personal endorsement to such a fine product. to win the game you have to adjust R kelly's diet so that R kelly has the most potent and perfectly tinted stream possible. this is obtained by eating different fruits and vegetables to get the desired taste and smell of urine.

ROFLEC

lol that part about "gender-specific" releases made me laugh so hard. Im sure that if they did the same for boys, it would be blamed for having sexual content. Anyways... (waiting for an interesting new)

My wife is Japanese, maybe she will like the game. That is when she's not cooking or doing laundry lol. She didn't like high school, so she may love it or hate it!

Har

Lol what ever sells i guess :). " if they did the same for boys, it would be blamed for having sexual content" Thats coz it would have sexual content, why the hell else would some 13yr old loser bother otherwise, he'd hardly want to examine her selection of 200 outfits :D

Is this a joke?

Did the article say the girls "were kicking and screaming" when their 10mins to try the game was up? Lame. Weak..

omg

What a strange culture...are the boys in japan gay or something? Every single girl at my school gets harrassed by guys, I dont think the women need to try to charm the men into kissing them. The men should be willing to do anything when he sees a person with boobs. Oh yea, asians have no boobs...that answers my confusion

asdfasdf

They have a different culture, so stop flaming. You don't see a lot of bondage in Japan because not a lot of people like it oppose to people in the US.
