THQ cancels Frontlines: Fuel of War for PS3, other game titles |
Ó
It's always sad when an upcoming game gets cancelled, and even more so when a series itself gets the axe. Such is the case with THQ's published fiscal outlook for this year, which announces not only the cancellation of a highly-anticipated title, but the discontinuation of two game franchises that have both left their own tangible mark in this industry. Ouch.
Just what in THQ's library of games ended up on the chopping block? First off is the PlayStation 3 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC). Lots of rumors have been floating around that this version of the game was about to get the axe, and even after a spokesperson from THQ tried to reassure fans, it seems that the worst-case scenario actually did come true. Two other titles, the PS2 version of Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed (PSP, Wii, PS2), also got the boot.
Feeling a bit sick to your stomach? It only gets bloodier from here on in, as the next victims in this gruesome cadaver line-up are two full-fledged series - namely, the Juiced series and the Stuntman series. It's to note that while both franchises aren't quite the headline games from THQ, they were received pretty well by the videogame industry - with the more recent incarnations garnering mostly positive reviews (as well as its own share of fans).
It's sad to know that we probably won't be seeing titles from these franchises anytime soon. In any case, updates as we get them, and here's hoping that we don't catch wind of any more game cancellations in the future.

I've seen the demo at CES and let me tell you, it's not a bad thing that this game was canceled.
Just wow. I was never a fan of any of those series, but THQ is pretty much doomed. They've lost a lot of money and it's only getting worse from here.
only game I got into is company of heroes and Red Faction.
rest of them pretty much sucked!
Even though the game stinks, its still expected that games be canceled for the system which costs the most to develop for, and wont sell many copies. They probably expect losses from this title, and figure, why lose more than they have to?
i've only heard of this game now because it got canned!!!!!
when i say that the PS3 has a juggernaut lineup for 08 this game wasn't even on page 256 of my list!!!! i don't even know the game!!!! it doesn't even my gaming prospects at all for 08!!!! infact this cancellation might have helped cause some uninformed moron might have bought this game, since it won't be on shelves anymore that uninformed moron might actually pick up a game worth the bucks like Little Big lanet.
who cares.. COD4 is the best war game made and the only one i will ever own
Frontlines? Never heard of it...
But I'm real sad about Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed for the PSP.....
;(
They cancelled the PS2 version of Destroy all humans big willie!! LMAO OMG. I hope they knew that it would sell biggest on that platform and the PSP/Wii sales of the game combines would even come close to teh sales they could of had on the PS2.
It's like when Atari released Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for the Wii/PS2. The Wii version sold 190,000 where as the PS2 version was up over 600,000.
Destroy all humans 2 sucked. I couldn't finish it. I got bored, the disguise system was sucky
Am I the only one who actually knew of this game prior too it's cancelation. I have watched it's progress since before the release of the ps3.. it did'nt look that impressive but I looked intersting. oh well.. but I loved stuntman damn.
Make a next gen red faction. I played Halo and Red faction at the same time and actually liked red faction better (around that time everyone was starting to go up halos ass).
I knew about it. The only reason I wanted it was because I wanted to blow up my friends online with the drones. But juiced?? wow that game isnt even on my bad list lol (its too bad to be even on my bad list).
I worked on the Frontlines: Fuel of War game for 3 months or over, the game was to be released in september of 07 but because of Halo and COD4 it got pushed back to up the ante on the graphics even though they were excellent compared to other things I've worked on. It is a shame that because a game doesn't get 5 months of TV promotion some people don't know about it. It really hurts when you see a product you've worked on and it gets cancelled when the release date was so close (feb. 28).
