Thought so: Anti-Dante's Inferno rally at E3 is a viral marketing campaign |
Ó
A couple of guys at our comments section called it yesterday (ie. NarooN and buttheadrulesagain). Amidst the heated discussion about heaven and hell and everything in between, and the protest that happened outside of the E3 event against EA and Dante's Inferno (Xbox 360, PSP, PS3), they said that the rally was just a [crappy] viral marketing campaign. And you know what, that's actually right.
Members of the "Salvationists Against Virtual and Eternal Damnation" group were passing out leaflets to just about anyone who passed them by yesterday.
Allegedly, the pamphlets direct you to a website, one http://wearesavedgroup.org. Visiting the site, you will be welcomed with more "Oh, hellz no to Inferno" bashing.
Only to be lead to the game's official website.
Nice spin, EA.
I actually had a suspicion already that it was a gimmick when I saw the "Cheat Codes won't save your souls" placard (yes, I assume they don't play video games in the first place). Although I wouldn't necessarily say it was all crappy.
It did get you guys typing madly away at your keyboards in a frenzied discussion after all. That's more than the usual airtime Dante Alighieri must be used to.

Did I win something? :D
Wow, EA set up a fake "fanatic christian protest" over their game in hopes it would get them more publicity? That's just tasteless and low. I had no interest in the game to begin with, but after a cheap stunt like this I'm definately not picking this up anytime soon.
oh... el...
This is awesome and caught my attention, so I guess it worked.
It's okay ChaosZero thought it was awesome which means it wasn't tasteless apparently. : P I'm happy to hear it because man that was going a bit too far.
No worries. The religious people in the pics above are false religious.. There is no hell in the fire. The bible didnt say anything about fire in the hell either. Yeah, they are false. Ignored them.
wow, thats pretty dumb. EA = Electronic Anti-Christ. There are many many mentally challenged parents in the USA and if they see that they might think EA is the anti-christ or other stuff like it, so they may not let 'their' kids buy any EA games.
I applaud EA for having the balls to do this, but this may have been taking it a *little* too far. But hey, it worked.
I don't really have any interest in the game itself, but screwing with worthless Christian opinion is always ok in my book.
Lake of fire? Revelations? Apocalypse of Peter? Didn't read them, did you?
Because if someone has a certain religious view, their opinion is worthless. What a fine way to show how much of an intellectual you are.
if they were passing fliers out, how many brainless people took it sirusly?(spelling sucks) i wonder what aculy happend there
It's funny when atheists show as little logic as they preach all theists lack.
Well its a different low than before. Religious folk still have a bad rep thanks to the fools who fill spot lights, that fuels atheist arguments regardless of whether they turn out to be viral ad campaigns (that was a good one, but I'm still not interested, DMC all the way for me...and GoW). Also, that dude was right, the Bible never associates Hell with fire. Yes it mentions a lake of fire and stuff to that effect but it never goes to say "Hell is fire, Satan rules in Hell, Dante is in Hell" stuff like that. Thats a great example of the catholic church's propaganda (The ironic enemy of my religion, christianity lol). Look it up, the "seven deadly sins" were also made up (though they may still be bad theres no real list) as well as a lot of made up demons. If you're gonna spout off religiously, do it with some education. But thats neither here nor there, this is a video game site, not a Church forum.
