I can play violent video games all day if I want and feel like shooting people (which I dont cause Im old enough to understand the concequences at 20) but if I dont have access to a gun I cant shoot anyone
they need to go after the gun access, video games cant train you to kill because they dont simulate the realistic consequences of shooting or getting shot and especially death, there is no reload or cheat menu.
marines dont play videogames to train, they play war games out on real field with real guns (using blanks of course), but I do know of people in the marines who use their skill to own in sniping at halo LOL.

Violent crimes dropped because kids stayed at home playing violent video games. Other wise they would be out causing problems. It's quite natural for males to be violent, games give them an outlet. You can spend all night with your pals playing GTA or Splinter Cell instead of roaming the streets. Eventually people grow out of the acting out violent stage, but still like to run around killing and destroying stuff in games. The Best Way to Halt people like Mr. Thomsom is to buy the games you love to play. Rockstar and the others will have the money to fight back.

At 2:20 (roughly) the announcer states, "While most of these games are rated 'M' for Mature, it's still perfectly legal to sell them to kids". WTF??? No it's not, you flaming jackass. Store owners can be arrested and their stores shut down for selling M rated games to minors under 17. The law requires them to check the IDs of anyone purchsasing these games. That's why the rating system is there in the first place. Way to try to incite your viewers against the rating system, *****s.
Anyway, onto my opinion of Jack Thompson. Isn't it illegal to file "frivelous" lawsuits? Last time I checked it is. So, take my advice, Rockstar. So long as Rockstar doesn't shoot themselves in the foot with another "hot coffee" type mod that they don't tell the ratings board about, Rockstar is going to be just fine.
Not only are they one of the more successful companies, but their medium of choice is basically protected by the constitution. If they shut down Rockstar for creating violent video games, then everything violent (from books, to TV shows and movies, music, and even the news) will have to be strictly regulated against violent content to ensure consistency.

The gaming industry should not be getting ridiculed for what they provide as a source of entertainment. Once the game is in the consumers hands, it becomes their responsibility to decide who is going to play this, how will I react to the content of the game, Do I have enough brain cells to control my behavior when playing this game. It is also the responsibility of the supplier to help decide whether this game is reasonable or not for the consumer. Some people just need to understand that it isn't the company at fault. Entertainment is a service and sometimes a privilege. If you don't like it don't play. If you can't contain yourself while playing a violent game, don't play. If you are just using a game for a scapegoat to why you decide to go down the street and punch old ladies in the face while carrying a flamethrower, don't play it. I'm a Christian and I'd just like to point out that this guy is right on a few points and wrong on others. To think that a game can persuade someone to murder, or be violent is rediculous. It's a choice factor, I could choose to go out and kill a puppy right now, but im not going to. After playing Grand Theft Auto, I also don't decide to go out and hurt things. However, I can see where he's coming from on another level with minors playing games. The certificate on a game shows the legal age to sell the game to a consumer. Anyone less than the certified age, in my opinion, shouldnt be allowed to play the game. Simply put, I think if you are too young to grasp what a game is about (which is entertainment) then you shouldn't be allowed to pick up a controller. Because a younger mind is suceptable to a lot more than an older, more mature mind. Anyone who can pick up a weapon and kill someone has to have something wrong with them to begin with. No-one just decides after playing a game to go out and kill thier friends.
So... hes right and wrong, wrong in the sense that games can inspire violence and correct in assuming that a younger mind can't differentiate as well as a more mature mind can. And as a christian he's not doing what Jesus commanded, which is to love your neighbour. The bible also states that you should settle all differences with someone before even giving to God. Instead, he goes around suing people in the name of righteousness. He complains that people are out to murder him and destroy his career. but isn't that what he's trying to do to these companies?
I however, don't like it when people who don't even believe in God go around using the bible to make a Christian look stupid. Yeah, the old testiment is very gory. But so was world war 1 and 2. Gore is gory, it's true, I know.
His crusade of righteousness is flawed, a righteous man is someone who cares about the wellbeing of thier fellow man, no matter what they do or who they are. Jesus cared about everyone regardless of what they had done. He befriended sinners, ate with greedy tax collectors and drunkards. That's not to say that violence is correct in any light, Im sure Jesus would still have something to say to all this violence in the world, but I'm sure he'd say it much better than this guy.
Sorry for the rant, I just hate it when men can't just live in peace with one-another. It all ends up being a childish game of "I'm right, you're wrong."
Oh yeah, on a morality scale though, he gets 5 stars. I'd like to think that what he believes is genuine and he actually cares for the people he's trying to protect. However, it's very possible that he's trying to get famous and get easy money. It's a double-edged sword. And only he knows the truth to what he's doing.

Ok, lets be serious here; is Jack Thompson really going to bring video gaming to an end? Absolutely not, we live in an economic driven country, which by no means will shut down a multi billion dollar market to keep children "safe". No matter what he does or says, ultimately he will fail. There are to many factors working against him here. Foremost the whole freedom of speech clause in the constitution, (which is also interpreted by law as freedom of expression [Video games]) secondly there are to many gamers out there, and people who support the gaming industry, to ever be stopped by one lawyer with a small mind, and hardly any backing. You can't just use video games as an excuse for violence. People who blame them for their crimes are just trying to get a less harsh punishment. I personally like GTA a lot because you can do stuff in there you can't do (legally) in real life. And I think that's why most other people play it to.

I agree with the fact that the parents choose to let their children play these games. I know kids who have played these games and have straight A's and have great attitudes. Not the violent attitudes he thinks are caused by these games, and besides most crimes and criminals come from poverty stricken backgrounds, and if they're poor how are they even going to pay for such games.
