The Orange Box from Valve - Image 1Almost a month after its release, Bungie Studio's Halo 3 has finally loosened its grip on the US sales charts, with Valve Corporation's Orange Box succeeding the widely successful game. For the week ending on October 13, The Orange Box (containing Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal) is the best seller on its first week of release.

For its opening week, The Orange Box's Xbox 360 version has sold 348,049 units and Halo 3, now on its third week, has sold 285,860 units. In third place is the popular The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for Nintendo DS handheld platform. In fourth is Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War for the PSP and in fifth is Wii Sports for the Wii.

It was only a matter of time for Halo 3 to lose the top spot, but it's unlikely the same could be said for its presence in Xbox Live, where it continues to dominate the charts after dethroning the previous champ, Gears of War.

Hold those crowbars high everyone, Gordon's in town

» gears of war was better than this.

I found half life 2 kind of boring and repetitive. Although quite realistic.

Portal was my favourite game in the set

and team fortress was pretty awesome, too. I'll pawn this game in when it comes out for the ps3.

» dream come true!

finally! i've been waiting for the day when the over hyped and over rated item would be trumped by the underdog! And at last, Half Life, the true master of FPSs beats Halo! WOOT!

Now, we just have to wait for the gamepark to defeat the PSP.

Flame armor activated... ;P

Just go to show you 360 will always be king with the Wii as queen and PS3 as the village idiot.

ps3 sales are beginning to increase. They're going to eclipse the wii and crush the 360. just you wait.

» ya sure.

So you're saying you're giving away your steam account with all your personal information on it too? Stupid move.

Hmm, not too sure if Half life is a true master of FPS.

I don't remember Half life as much as I remember Quake 3 when I was growing up.

(Halo is defiantly not the master of FPS, but does have a great story line.)

I'm pretty sure they got "trumped" because everybody who wanted Halo 3, got their copy.

*shrug* I want orange box, but I don't want it for Half Life 2 ep 2, I want it for TF2 and Portal.

The reviews for the games are decent.

Check out this review for it, it's pretty real about whats going on.

PS3>360>Wii

How long should I be waiting?...

w/e I'm more of a PC gamer now anyways. There really isn't anything interesting in console gaming this generation. The Wii is winning, 360 has the online + library, and PS3 will "make a comeback someday". Thats about sums the whole situation up.

» Well its not surprising really

I mean Halo beens out for 29 days so most who wanted one pretty much have gotten one. The orange box i haven't played that yet but it must be pretty awesome.

@nllx

" Just go to show you 360 will always be king with the Wii as queen and PS3 as the village idiot."

I call fanboy troll.

Listen Yes the Wii is doing great and the 360 is doing great due to its 1 year release over both, and the PS3 has gotten off to a shaky start but guess what its way to early to be saying fanboyish statements like that.

For all we know the PS3 could be king the Wii could be queen and the 360 could be the village idiot. But we don't know and anything can happen, nobody won it yet its just getting started.

thanks nighshade for your useful post. You're absolutely right. I have read a few reviews lately entailing how many people bought Orange just for TF2 and Portal. But still, I still remember the original Half Life as being one of my favorite games. After all, it was 2000's game of the year according to more than 25 publications...

But yes, perhaps the newer iterations are getting a little redundant. OH well...

by iamback(unregistered) - 2007-10-22 00:24
» WHY?!

Why must the wii always be the queen! Why not the prince at the very worse? Besides, with a name like "wii", I think it's a given that it's a male! That's like Sony releasing a system called the "TiT", and everyone referring to it as a male... lolz.

Also, yes in terms of graphics, PS3>360>Wii.

But, in terms of good old fashioned gaming ("back when I was your age, video games were for games, and DVDs were for dvds..."), the order is wii>360>PS3.

You like games? Buy a wii! You like graphics and DVDs and bluray? Buy a PS3. You like games AND DVDS AND graphics? Get a high powered computer!

» fear

i fear for the sony and for my ps3, will I have betamax in a year? the ps3 is powerful it has blu and blutooth built in and wireless too plus hdd plus cripleLinux, but no games. 3DO?. I'll get orange box for the ps3. I guess people starting noticing the 640P resolution of Halo3, and now they want to see a real HD game.
