The NPD Group sales data results: Sony's response |
Ó
Despite not having performed quite as well as its competitors last December, Sony hasn't given up the fight yet. The company still thinks the best is yet to come. This is according to Sony's sales response via the NPD Group.
Sony says that it did quite all right considering the situation. The company has pointed to a total of US$ 714 million in hardware revenues generated by their PlayStation 2 and 3 consoles, a figure which reportedly surpassed that of Microsoft and Nintendo.
Furthermore, Sony's hardware and software have reportedly gained momentum during the previous month. Consider the following:
- 798,000 PlayStation 3 units sold last month.
- Sales of the Sony PSP amounted to 1.1 million units last December.
- The PlayStation 2 likewise sold the same number of units as the PSP.
- The PS2 version of Guitar Hero 3 (PC, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360) sold 2.7 million units from October to December last year.
- PlayStation software revenue totalled US$822 million in December.
- Sony's PlayStation platforms had the following titles in the top 10 list for December:
- Guitar Hero 3
- Madden NFL 08
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

all i have to say is that theres enough room for 3 systems.
In your living room. Mine only has room for a Playstation 3 and a Wii. Microsoft already rules my computers, I don't need another - less powerful - PC connected to my TV.
Microsoft got alot of money and taking over our schools and now our home.
Alteast we wont see them go down like Sega did.
I thinking about going 360 becasue all Play Station does is put *****ty anime stuff as always.
Don't call me a xbox fan boy becasue I do own a PS2 PS1, and a PSP. All I see from Sony is when 2 years past, the system falls apart. I see that happening to the PSP right now.
Not a fanboy indeed....
it's quite funny that you're concerned about reliability so you're going to buy a 360...
don't make us laugh.
I don't know you but maybe you ought to take better care of your stuff. I know many people that still have their original PS2's. I'm on my second one (which is at least 3 years old) only because I gave my first one (5+ yrs old and still working) to my brother. At least five of those PS2's ran for 6 months to a year without ever being turned off (yes literally and no I am not counting standby mode) once.
I also have two launch PSP's with no issue's thus far. Sony makes quality products, usually overpriced, but you get what you pay for. I've given away two Sony tv's that are pretty old (older than many who visit this site at least) and serving well to this day.
If your stuff lasts such little time then you ought to consider how you treat it.
Errr, I still have my working ps1 and ps2... and I solf my psp since I hate portable gaming after all, lol, but it worked great. And I had an xbox too, wich I exchanged with a friend for my actual ps2. I also had an xbox360, but only for a week, I hated gears of war (only ONE usefull gun...) and my x360 was always getting: "contact custommer service" in gray... not funny in the 1st week, so I returned it to bestbuy... And now I have a ps3, wich is GREAT. The only thing I lack is: mistwalker games :'(, and eternal sonata (wich is coming, at least). At least now my console is doing great. The only thing I lack is a wii, but I think it's priced too high for what it is... And I dislike the games (but 2-3), so I'll wait till, let's say, around next-june to next year before buying on (waiting for a price drop... with the x360/ps3 killing the gap between them and the wii, nintendo will have to arrange the supplies, and get the price down a bit (199$?)
It also makes prices come down faster and I know all of us like that.
Both my PS2 and my PSP lasted less than a year before they crapped out. I have had my 360 since launch day and I have never had to have it repaired. I guess everyone has different experiences like this no matter what system you buy but you guys shouldnt act like the PS3 has that much better quality control.
I prefer the xbox because the games are more geared toward Americans instead of the Japanese as is the case with the Playstation. Most Japanese games suck anyways. So does anime.
Hrm. Must be a case-to-case basis.
I still have my old PS1 sitting in a corner somewhere. It still works, and I remember that the only time it broke down was when the lens needed replacement after 4 years of almost daily marathon play. ^^
why? the PS3 does indeed have better quality, we aren't "acting like" we're stating an actual industry accepted fact.
unless you've been detached to the rest of the earth you would know this.
Not to be a fanboy at the moment but you do realize that MS 360 was bombarded with RRoD(red ring of death) which basically means your system is dead until you sent it back to MS to get it fix.
And i do hope you realize that MS lost 2 billions dollars cause of this issue. Only recently have they lessen the 33% failure rate to about 14% i think. While both the Wii and PS3 have less than 1% failure rate which is by the best percentage you can have for consoles.
So don't talk about reliability fanboy.
Also i still have my PS1 since launch and PS2 as still working and i never brought them in for repairs. So for me it was 100% working fine. Only once in awhile has my PS2 has Disc read error and that was for my PS1 games though. So please take your fanboyish remarks and leave cause the more you talk the more you sound like a idiot and tool.
