Dragonball: Evolution - Image 1

For those who were wondering what the Dragonball: Evolution movie tie-in game would look like... well, look no further. No, really. In fact, I advise you to look away! And here I was thinking the other day "oh, c'mon, how bad could it possibly be?"

...Y'know sometimes, you'd rather want a question left unanswered. *sigh*

Whatever the case, here you go - it's press release time. Dragonball: Evolution hits retail right in time for the movie: April 2009. As you can see, it's a fighting game. They've taken the live-action actors from Fox's movie and rendered them into the game.

As with the rest of Namco Bandai's DBZ: Shin Budokai games, the gameplay modes are pretty much the same - it's got Arcade, Training, and Mission. Online battles will also be available. Taking from the movie's plot, Story mode follows Goku's quest to his "predestined fight against the evil Lord Piccolo."

The only thing this game lacks is the spirte of Van Damme in his Guile outfit, circa 1995.

(...Shh, don't tell anyone! I am so going to get this game. Call it a guilty pleasure.)

i love Dragonball, in all of its animated and game forms to date... but now, I'm just really scared. If its Dragonball, Final Fantasy, or Street Fighter, it should NOT be made in America.

this looks like a mere ripoff of tekken, dead or alive, soul calibur, mortal kombat, etc. Definitely not a dragonball game but a crappy movie game. But ONLINE play they say? hmmmm

# Haven't any of you played the Budokai games?kupomogli 2009-01-19 10:59
The gameplay itself is ripped straight from the Budokai games. The movements seen are exactly the same so I can guarantee the gameplay is the same just with different character graphics.

Looks like I'll avoid this one since I have Budokai 3 which is the best DBZ fighter and I'd rather have Goku looking like Goku.

looks pretty much the same as Tekken games. Which, by the way, I don't see why anybody likes!

if the fighting is flexible and open spaced, it shouldn't be that bad. im always looking forward to good combat games, even if its based on a movie that i don't want to see

# You must not be a huge DBZ fan then.kupomogli 2009-01-19 18:36
If you were, you'd look past the fact that the game has the movie looking characters and carries the Budokai gameplay. If you can't tell that from the screenshots on how the attacks are performed, then what kindof fan are you to not have played those games?

I a fan of DBZ up to Cell Saga and pretty much hate the rest of the series, both GT and the original DB. I play the games because they're good and can see that the game will be good, like the Budokai games, but the character designs aren't DBZ characters so I don't want to play a game that I already have with the correct characters.

Budokai 3 is one of my favorite games. It looks like budokai, but it also looks like Tekken. IMO tekken is too slow paced! And the characters die in like 4 hits!

Both the game and the movie will terribly suck. Chi Chi and Bulma look hot, though. Pretty much the only good part of it.

# they don't die...Daistaar 2009-01-19 20:55
they get KOed. They lose, but i don't recall them dying. The are happily invited every year to partake in the tournament lol. Understand that Tekken is not SF MK or KoF. It is supposed to be realistic and in real life it only takes a few hit, especially from from a trained professional. Same reason Bushido Blade failed here in the states. What I wouldn't give for a HD PS3 version of that. (drools)

Bushido Blade rocks ridiculously hard. But like you said, it wasn't your typical fighter so it failed in states.
