Teenagers and Women: Heavy Gamers |

Don't be surprised if the people who beats you on online games seem to be getting younger and younger these days--because they really are!The younger you are, the more chances that you're a gamer. According to the latest NPD Group Study, 45% of "Heavy Gamers" and 1/3 of "Avid Console Gamers" are between the ages of 6-17 debunking the assumption that most hardcore players are within the 18-34 age bracket. Regarding the Gaming Handhelds 1 in 3 are aged 18 to 44. In short, there are more younger hardcore players than thought of initially.
There were other surprising results gathered from the survey. The ladies have begun to play harder - 21% of the mentioned "Heavy Gamers" are females. This supports the report by Nintendo last GC, stating that 44% of the NDS sales came from the women side. It used to be "Hide all the women and children," now it's "Where's my little girl? She'll beat this big boss in minutes."
So should game developers and retailers focus mainly on the heavy gamers? According to Anita Frazier, they shouldn't as there are more broader and larger consumer base than the Heavy Gamers. Whatever your age, sex, or race is... just keep on playing.

No, there aren't a lot of female players, there are a lot of 12 year old players that SOUND like females.
i agree with Raz but the numbers they have put there split the age groups too much id say about 90% of gamers are in the 14-25 year old group, but i guess that doesnt leave a good statistic to compare it to

My girlfriend sometimes talks like she don't like videogames but she is addicted to that silly game Toontown online. She will play it hours if you let her and that is something that keeps me from coming on the QJ sites more. I still would attempt coming on here with my PSP though but it would be slow and limited. Now I am glad to have the update available to a better interface to check it out on my PSP. Thanks Again QJ.

most "hardcore" gamers arent age 6 to 17, they ARE age 18-34, at least in my book. Because part of what I personally define as a hardcore gamer is one who builds his pc himself, and sure you can do that at 17, but not very often ^^
LOL. I dun have any beef with the article... except for the fact that the system "DS" and the word "Hardcore" were in the same sentence, LMAO.
Well, i am 15 and i have builtmy own pc so i suggest that around 13- 34 are hardcore.
i think if anyone has played on xbox live, they'll see that when they're getting there butts kicked it's by kids age ranging from 10-17. I don't think someone over 20 could really do any damage haha
