Take-Two suspends Manhunt 2 distribution |
Ó
Take-Two Interactive Software has temporarily suspended their plans to distribute Manhunt 2 in the wake of the game's current pariah status among game retailers, console companies, and ratings groups.
According to Reuters, the company has "temporarily suspended" distribution plans for Manhunt 2 as it reviews its options following the game's banning in the UK and its subsequent "Adults Only" rating in America. In addition to the UK banning of the game, Sony and Nintendo follow a policy of not allowing playback of Adults Only titles on their platforms, essentially killing the game upon release in its current state.
Said Take-Two in a statement, "We continue to stand behind this extraordinary game. We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment."
Following this, Take-Two's options are limited to releasing the game in its current state for the PC, reworking the game to remove its AO rating, or dropping the game outright. Chances are though, they'll rework the game to move the rating into more profitable territory. While the hoopla behind the game's release may have brought public scrutiny on the game, gamers are definitely more aware of the game now, especially following the game's favorable review on NGamer. Hopefully, Rockstar Games will be able to keep the game's important nuances intact whilst making it more ratings-friendly.

So much for that
I got a leaked beta of the PS2 version and the game roooooooooooooo ooooooocks
I really hope this game is released in it's current state... sounds like the game i've been waiting for all my life =(
This whole story about a game is total non sense.
So what its AO rated ? So do not buy for your children - end of story -
No need to do this kind of advertising , I think its an insult to our intelligence !
Screw them ! damned #@^{]@ born-again !!! If they dont like fictionnal violence then they do not need to impose it to the rest of the world.
Encore une fois on nous prend pour des cons !
And yet the movie 'Hostel' plays in theaters. I don't think this is really that much worse! Hey if it's that bad just don't sell it to kids GEEZ.
BTW if microsoft gets the balls to allow a non-altered release this on the 360 i guaradamntee that my PS3 is going straight to ebay... this could be microsoft's chance to go for the kill... if they were smart and open minded that is.
here a link to a petition to keep this game as it is.

I hope it gets delayed indefinitely :)
u sh1ttin me?
Any adult should have the full right to play this game, but the sad fact is, if it is released, children WILL play it. There's just far too many ignorant, irresponsible parents out there who will buy (or let their kids buy) absolutely any game on the market, reguardless of rating or content. Think about how many little kids are playing gory, violent games like Gears of War every day, learning war tactics (and plenty of new fun words form their grown-up online pals).
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love these games myself, but I would never let young children play or even observe these games.
And sure, it seems were all being treated like children now, being told what we can and cannot play. But frankly, unless these games start getting treated like the adult entertainment they are, I don't think many so-called parents are gonna understand.
Serioulsy, I think thay should be sold like porn, behind glass, and card any purchaser under 25. Why not?
That is such bull*****, hollywood can release such films as Hostel 1 & 2, Hills Have Eyes 1 & 2, and Saw 1,2, & 3. without an Adult Only rating & some of the shots in film are gorerific
Wii n PSP got it?
if porn movies are released children will watch it and it isnt banned, some young suburban kids listen to satanic music or other weird and it isnt banned or talked about rap music should be banned though and manhunt 2?kids will always be able to get a hold to knives, guns, sta plers, their parents car keys and anything else and if they want to sell them under glass let them i dont care,as long as i can purchase it if i want to.there are more important thigs we should be worrying about, like the next president an what should be done about this war thats costing every american a whole lot of money and will continue to cost more cause this is one battle thats never going to end.never.

Hahahaha!
Get a life!! Online petitions mean absolutely nothing!!
You people do realise that no game stores will stock AO games and that Sony & Nintendo's POLICY is to not allow AO games to run on their machines.
Its Take-Two's own fault for pushing their luck. If you blame anyone, blame them.
It can still be released on PC un-edited however.
...a well thought out comment. You're absolutely right VIJames, while other here scream "sell it only to adults," children will get their hands on it. Heck, those "irresposnible parents" you mention will probbaly ignore the AO rating just to get their kids to shut up when they keep asking for it.
I love this kind of game myself, if only they hadn't gone too far. Killing is fine, but from what I read on some sites, there are aspects that really do take this game too far.
"But frankly, unless these games start getting treated like the adult entertainment they are, I don't think many so-called parents are gonna understand."
The problem is as I see it, not that parent don't understand, its really that they just do not care. Kid wants it, kid gets it, "now go play your game and get the hell out of my face."
You're right, some parents do a horrible job. But at what point is it other people responsibility to step in? Viewing violent video games is hardly abuse. Though I agree it cannot be healthy. If I wanted to teach my child how to drop F-bombs society may frown, but that's my choice. Here in the states that is the beauty of our system. YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT. So the Jack Thomsons of the world are actually fighting against freedom. They are fighting against people's right to chose what they want to do.
You can't argue that parents are ignorant and stupid because at least in the U.S. that is no excuse. The parents should just be called out on being bad parents.
if not, then thas uffin' stupid. First off, we're the ones who bought the systems... n they think they have the right to tell us what we can n can't play!?! that's freakin' ridiculous... Next thing you know Sony's got a DVD player saying it only allows for PG movies to be played...
Alright UK might be strict... but at least release it in the States... I mean Adult Rating!? is there even porn in the game!? If not, then what's the point of rating it that?? All these new horror movies already show peoples limbs getting chopped of and thats only rated R... and plenty of little kids sneak into that n watch it on the big screen...
hahahahahah!!!!
Take-Two changes its name to Take-it-up-my-arse-TWICE
they deserve pile of loosers...
You've just gotta put this up as a torrent!
thats right pat smith
If you mind is too subtle to play the game, then please realize it. The cloud of dust remains in what they're trying to solve, because they destroyed their hard work.
The problem is that the US's biggest retailers won't sell AO rated games. Wal-Mart, GameStop, EB Games, Target, Best Buy, Sears, Kmart, Amazon.com, Buy.com, and almost all regional retail store chains won't sell AO rated games. Even my local Super Fresh grocery store, which has a small selection of video games, won't sell AO rated games and they also won't sell NC-17 rated movies on VHS tape or DVD.
SONY & NINTENDO have some serious problems, they're stopping people to buy something that they really want to buy. If they really thought about how many people would buy this game around the world, im sure they would let it play on their consoles. Because of this one game they could become filthy rich. If someone wanted to play this game anywhere, anytime then they would get a PSP. If someone wanted to get really interactive in this game then they would buy a Wiiand if someone just wants to come home and play a nice stress releasing game with their friends then they would buy a PS2. So i dont no y Sony and Nintendo have a problem with this game and as many others have mentioned if movies like hostel 1 & 2 can be released at safer ratings than Adults Only, even when you can see real people getting their body parts chopped off and getting crushed then y cant Manhunt 2 just have a rating of R because whatever happens in the game is all graphics, the characters maybe 3D but they still wouldn't look like anyone you know of. And if your thinking that kids will get their hands on it, then you shouldn't really worry because when you play this game on the PSP, PS2 whatever you do happens with the press of a button which doesn't really give you any influance of killing anyone. And on the Wii im pretty sure that to do any action you have to press a button also but you just your movement of the Wiimote for aiming at your enemy.
dont waste it,
rename it to evilhunt 2.
replace the guns with holy water pistols
make the blood white or any other color except red.
make the enemies fictional demons.
remove any sex related scene.
have it re-evaluated for PG13 or T teens
then release it on every console possible.
then have the original directors version available for online order. hehehehe
your an idiot....
