Survey asking about karma in GTA - Image 1

What do you think would happen if the next Grand Theft Auto game had a karma system in place? Do you think it would help if there was one? That's what an online survey is asking according to a post from Da Ill one on the Wiispace forums.

The survey itself isn't restricted to the next entry in the Rockstar franchise but is a wider-reaching one concerning karma systems in games. Here's the GTA-related question in its entirety:

Do you think Grand Theft Auto would benefit from having a "karma" system or "good" vs. "evil" actions mechanism that allowed you to choose your overall path by doing good or bad actions, where those actions have an accumulative impact on how the game unfolds? When answering, please consider the idea of being "good" or "evil" and NOT the particular execution / how this feature would be implemented.

Possible answers range from "Big improvement" to "A lot worse".

What do you think, folks? Would a karma system enhance the Grand Theft Auto experience or would it just hamper the fun factor of the game? Sound off in the comments section below.

by jrsmaster411 - 2009-05-02 15:01
» no

this is stupid, cause in gta your doing bad things anyway in the story, so complete a side quest and save an old lady getting mugged and then play the next story mission where you kill a bunch of dudes

» LOL

GTA is ment to run around and be an ass in the form of jacking military peripherals and killing everything. Karma would be horrable because then you would have to do ... *cringe* GOOD stuff DX

» IMO

i think it'll be fun,ya know

fer all those times you didn't kill that old lady

or killed reckless drivers.

karma wouldmake good things happen to you liek:

1) make the cops not as harsh

2) less people to kill during missions, and/or wearker weapons

3) possibly get "gang" members to help you *coughsaintsrow cough*

teh possibilities are endless..... so rockstar, plz include teh karma system ^^

» ftw

Yeah I think karma would be a really good thing for GTA.

» hmm

that would add some non-linearity to the game wich i personaly dont like...people would change according to how you behave

» ?

i don't get it - how could you be a good guy in gta. that is a contradiction.

unless you could have some way of atonement for your sins in the game.

» uhh

like Fable?

that would be definitely good! Then nobody could attack GTA for it's violence anymore! You have the choice to do good things after all! (Not that anybody would do that, but....)

» Karma?

This sounds like TES: Oblivion to me...

*Police come running out of nowhere* Stop! You violated the law. Pay the court a fine, or serve your sentence. Your stolen goods are now forfeit.

-Pay fine

-Go to jail

-Cap his ***

» Stupid

Then it wouldn't be Grand Theft Auto. Might as well call it Cuddly Cute Cars For All where the missions are to sell as many girl scout cookies as you can before another group does and pick up trash in the ghetto before the mess spreads to the rich neighborhoods. As it is GTA IV has somewhat of a karma system already via how and if you do the missions and side quests.

» Could be...

or it could be like the karma system in Fallout 3. Choices: 1. Be evil. 2. Be the lesser evil.

by Serosis - 2009-05-03 14:10
» blah

Or it could be the same system put in place in GTA 2, I view that as a 'sort of' karma system.

For those that don't know, look it up.

» A sensible idea

I probably still wouldn't play the games, but at least I wouldn't occasionally feel ashamed to be in the video game industry.

by sickofitall - 2009-05-04 02:12
» They tried this in True Crime

with the good cop, and bad cop choices. I don't think it helped with the game though.

by zaf9670 - 2009-05-07 02:34
» I wouldn't mind

Maybe if it worked like this...

You play the story mode as a rebel bada** motha regardless... But you have the options to take more gain for yourself in the mission or just do the job to make it to your goal.

Basically, step on faces or just do what you have to and get your guy/prize.

Not get a halo over your head and deliver babies in the ambulances or anything.

by zaf9670 - 2009-05-07 02:38
» Or...

Sacrificing the guy who gave you the guns... Repentance at its finest.
