The Square Enix Pre-E3 Press Conference just ended and a flurry of information has come in. There have been titles shown for the DS, GBA, PSP, PS2, Wii, and PS3. That's right. Wii and PS3.
The conference started out by showing the titles we'd heard of already. Trailers for Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Rocket Slime, Dawn of Mana, and the mobile games. After a small speech by Square-Enix President Yoichi Wada, the other games started coming out.
The first up was Final Fantasy XII, already released in Japan. The release date for the game was announced, October in North America, before a flurry of mobile game announcements. Dirge of Cerebus: Lost Episodes is coming out for mobile systems. Obviously Square Enix is going right into the mobile market.
Now the PS2 stuff. A very long trailer for Final Fantasy XII was shown. Fully English. The new voice actors are wonderful - you aren't going to be seeing a Resident Evil type cheesefest here. No laughing scene either. Even more trailers were shown after that for games like Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. All the trailers should be hitting the world wide web in a matter of minutes.
A trailer of the fully 3D mobile game Dirge of Cerebus: Lost Episodes is shown before a trailer for Final Fantasy III. As they say, "the only Final Fantasy never to reach Western shores." After that? Final Fantasy V and VI trailers for the GBA.
The World of Mana series was the next to be shown off with a trailer for both Children of Mana and Dawn of Mana. Children of Mana has already been released in Japan, but Dawn of Mana which takes 10 years before it has not.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is announced before Shinji Hashimoto talks about the success of the FFVII line of games. He then announces that Dirge of Cerebus would be out in North America on August 22nd before showing trailers of FFVII stuff we've seen already.
Now, for our PSP fanbase, the first FFVII Crisis Core footage is shown. Loads of Sephiroth and Zack footage. No gameplay is shown, only cutscenes in real time. It'll be up to download ASAP.
The last three game announcements are the biggest announcements of the show. First up is huge. Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is coming out for the Wii. Not only that, it'll be a launch title! No actual footage is shown. You will be able to use your controller as a sword. This is the first Dragon Quest title on a Nintendo home console in over a decade. This alone assures that the Wii will succeed in Japan.
Next up is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. One for Wii, another for DS. The game looks absolutely amazing. Might have been CG, but if it's real time it's absolutely breathtaking. Definitely up to Square Enix standards. It's being codenamed Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. The DS version is named Ring of Fates at the moment. The video showed four players simultaneously. Both games are WiFi compatible.
They've saved another biggie for last. Rounding out the next-gen trio is Final Fantasy XIII. Not just Final Fantasy XIII. Three titles sharing that name. Final Fantasy XIII for PS3. Final Fantasy Versus XIII for PS3. Final Fantasy Agito XIII for Mobile.
A heroine is shown in the trailer for FFXIII with a sword and gun going through a futuristic world. The director will be Motomu Toriyama. FFXIII Versus, an action-focused game, will be directed by the people who made Kingdom Hearts and FFVII: Advent Children. FFXIII Agito will feature adhoc multiplayer.

call me sexest if you want but having a girl as the main character is lame they made the mistake of making FFX-2 like that and looks like XIII will also suck.
FFVI featured a female protagonist and is hailed as the greatest FF title ever by many fans. This can still work.

FF VII hailed as best ever?? That is only because majority of you have only played Final Fantasy VII and above while playing nothing before it... perfect example of this would be poster #5.
FF VI is leaps and bounds ahead of FF VII... FF VII's story/character designs, etc.. were almost exact copies of FF VI... if most of you fanboys would take the time to play these older games you might learn something.
Female characters DO work... Terra was just amazing... Celes as well.

This one game "Final Fantasy XIII" will sell millions os PS3s. BTW I predicted this title would be announced on various previous post.
Good for the wii they will get a push on sales with that gragon quest announcement. I personally prefer FF due to them having more mature story lines and characters but I'm sure the Japanese will buy anything that has Dragon Quest on it. Maybe MS should have bought the rights to it.
I can't wait for FF: CC and Dragon Quest! I never got a chance to play Dragon Quest for the N64, but I heard that it was a great game! :)

i played every FF game and just because i dont like a game means i couldnt have played it? Anyway female lead characters BLOW plain and simple it is unrealistic, they should make a game about cleaning a house or baking then the lead can be a female. So go in the corner and play with your barbie and keep quiet

However as another poster mentioned one of the reasons why FF7 beats out FF6 is because many more have played 7.
Square has been an amazing company that produces quality games. When it comes to their FF titles they put everything possible in it. So no it is not going down the drain. FF# are never sequels.

You fail to grasp the fact that majority of the people who even played Final Fantasy started with Final Fantasy VII... which would be the reason for it outselling the SNES classic FF VI, you would also know that creating mass amounts of CD's is much easier and faster than producing cartridges, which would be the main reason for the higher sales.
Rating a games quality on sales is a horrible way to go... because this would mean that any game that sells more than FF VI is better??? Odd... cause last I checked Dragon Quest VII sold many copies in the US and Japan.. but the game wasn't even that great.
My facts don't come from 13 year old gamers or some stupid statistic such as what you just pulled up. It comes from me and many other gamers who were actually around for the times of Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu III and Tales of Phantasia (SNES version).
Read a little more about FF VI and FF VII... you would be suprised to see how many ideas from FF VI were incorporated into FF VII... from Kefka/Sephiroth being created by evil corporations/Empires and eventually becoming "unstable" and wanting to destroy everything so they could become some sort of a "God" if you will.
Midgar is very similar to Vector... too many reasons... but yes, they are there.
Like I said... Sephiroth is a rip off of Kefka.

Final Fantasy VII will always be a fan favorite, but in the end... it is nothing more than a cheap rip off of a game that was and always will be superior to it... Final Fantasy VI.

Although I didn't get into FF until X (didn't own a PS but bought a PS2 for FFX), I still would like to point out a few things.
1) Number of games sold does not mean how good the game is. There are some really great games out there that no one bought or didn't sell well for one reason or another. One of my favorite RPGs of all time was "Climax Landers" (known as Time Stalkers in the US) for the Sega Dreamcast.
Many people hated the game because they felt it was too short and didn't have much to offer. HOWEVER, the story mode had nothing on the actual missions the game had to offer. I played that game every bit as much as I played FFX.
2) Numbers sold does not subtract when people return titles. Many people returned FFVII for one of the reasons it sold so well in the first place:
3) FMV trailers. The entire FFVII ad campaign revolved around showing nothing but the CG scenes from the game. Leading many people to believe the entire game looked like that. And just like all the people that want a PS3, they bought it because of the looks.
However, when they played it and found out it wasn't all like that, many shallow consumers returned the game, which leads back to point 2.

FFIV and Tactics (PSX)? Those were my favorites. Then VI and VII somewhere after that.
Kain and Golbez were the best.
As a big RPG fan i say: whole this square stuff is getting over hyped.
FF6 is the best RPG game to date followed by Suikoden2
Comparing Final Fantasy 6 with Final Fantasy 7 is like comparing a 5 star restaurant(FF6) with a McDonald's(FF7) even if the restaurant is a lot better most people like McDonald's.
Seriously, i haven't read such enjoyable worthless banter in the longest time, thanks for all that, guys. FF6 is indeed, a better game - right down to the f'n collisseum. FF7 had some fun mini games, though. I mastered everything in both games - lv 99's on all chars, mastered all espers, materia, etc. At the end of the day, I feel 6 is a better game - less linear, less bull*****, and above all else - DEEPER, MORE LIKEABLE CHARACTERS!!!
but in all seriousness, let's cut the hate folks. y'all just need to get along.

Wtf is the point of having a series named Final Fantasy, when one has nothing to do with the f***ing other. God its people like you guys that should be shot, moving along if you are going to bring up FFX-2 or w/e it is, don't, because Square Enix either should follow their formula (having a series that has nothing to do with the last) or stop making games.
:S man, I played every rpgs... not only final fantasy games like a lot of people, and a lot of traducted from jap ( none official traductions ) , and I say the story of ff7 was a lot more better than ff6, and ff1-2-3 had almost no story. ff4 was good, ff5 was good to the middle, and ff6 was real good, but ff7 was better, and ff12 is way better lol, anyway, it only depens on the tastes, so stop saying non-sense!

Square Enix with an interview with OPM said that the main character will NOT be the main character, but a character just chosen for the gameplay footage.
