Square Enix looking for Western talent, makes a bid for Eidos |
Ó
Things are looking up for Eidos, which had a very tough year where they had a global studio restructuring and a financial upheaval. The owner of the Tomb Raider franchise is being courted by several big names, including the titan studio Square Enix, who's looking to expand with more titles (beyond Final Fantasy) that appeal to Western tastes.
Squeenix has been pretty serious in its bid to expand to the West, just recently setting up camp in Los Angeles. Looks like prez Yoichi Wada abandoned the idea of a Japanese gaming alliance to compete with Western studios.
Although Eidos would certainly bolster their cred with the Western audience, insiders believe that Warner Bros will be the one to win over Lara Croft's company, since it already owns 20% of the studio. However, there is a possibility that Square could just buy assets off the company, like the Hitman franchise.
I'm rather curious to see what Squeenix will bring to the Hitman and Tomb Raider franchises if ever they do acquire Eidos. Actually, I just wanna see Shiva and Lara Croft wrestle.

Dear Isaac C.
Wouldn't be preferable to have a Tifa vs. Lara match?
That aside:
I'm anxious to see what comes out of this... Maybe SE could liven up Eidos a bit... Warner is just going to screw it all...
Well it would be unfair for Tifa wouldn't it. Let's just make it a three-way wrestle so everyone gets a go at each other.
They have been garbage ever since they became Square-Enix. They have made no good games this gen either as all they have pushed out is mediocre titles. I don't have any hope for FF13 either (and why should I with disasters like FFX-2, FF11, & FF12 plus the titles they put out this gen).
Square-Enix =/= Squaresoft and it shows because as soon as they became Square-Enix, their quality disappeared.
If they do buy Eidos, I guess that means we'll be seeing a buster sword carrying, Firaga casting Lara Croft soon? Nice!
Kingdom Hearts II was good and Square Enix made that.
Even mediocre Squeenix games are better than most of the stuff out there... I agree with you that X-2 and XI were mistakes, BUT, XII reinvented their genre conciling the old audience and also bringing a new one... I guess you are against change, but things need to change cuz if you always stick to the same formula you'll end up going down... But yes VII, VIII and IX have been the best games they did... But against your point X sucked and it was amde by squaresoft...
