Square Enix is doing another teaser countdown promotion, a gimmick we haven't seen since Chrono Trigger for the DS. This time the countdown is for a game centering on the word "Bahamut." No hints on a platform though.

On the teaser site is a picture of what appears to be a city in the clouds, or on the back of Bahamut. Either that or the cloud city has a Bahamut figurehead? Your guess is as good as mine. Below that is a Shadow of the Colossus-type creature, only more massive - massive enough to have a mountain resting comfortably on its shoulder.

Older gamers or retro fans among you might know the old SNES game Bahamut Lagoon. It didn't reach the popularity of the Final Fantasy franchise since it was never officially released outside Japan. Could this be hinting at another remake? Or is it a whole new game dedicated to one of Final Fantasy's iconic summons?

No idea. We'll know in about 4 days though. Tick tock, tick tock.

» I'm sure it will be a remake.

And it will be for the DS. Square-Enix is good for nothing but remakes these days. I mean they already fail at making Final Fantasy games. I don't see FF13 or any future FF game being any good either. As soon as Squaresoft became Square-Enix everything went to hell.

As soon as Sakaguchi left, everything went to hell. followed by Uematsu leaving... yay for Mistwalker +P

» Really?

Mystwalkers games have sucked too..

Blue Dragon was good gameplay mixed with the worst story in a JRPG since Xenosaga.

Lost Odyssey was a good story with the slowest, most boring turn based gameplay since... I think ever. (I takes almost a full 60 seconds from the time you are attacked to the time you enter your first battle command)

Blame Square Enix all you like (They deserve it), but you're not going to convince me that Sakaguchi had anything to do with it. Newsflash, Sakaguchi was only an executive producer since Final Fantasy 3.. ON NES!!!!

The problem with Square Enix is piss poor upper management. The problem with JRPGs is a country stuck at the turn of the millenium.

» Yeah

And there were floating continents in that game. I would love to see a remake.

I predict Xbox. I've figured out SE's crap strategy. If they make a craptastic game that they know won't sell more than a few hundred thousand copies....they don't make it for the PS3 anymore because PS3 development takes more money.

Apply the above theory to previously released game during the past 2 years. You'll know its true.

» hehe

It's an FF7 Remake......

LOL what? Someone had to say it! Hahaha.

No but seriously though.... While I couldn't care less anymore about a remake - oh I actually wouldn't mind either way - the simple fact that this has a Colossus feel to it is giving me goosebumps.

Bahamut Lagoon, eh? Hmmm... Never got to play it on the Famicom, but hell, I love the idea! ^_^

» Is it just me?

the one with the buildings on the back reminds me of the summons Alexander from Final Fantasy 7, so maybe it is final fantasy related? In Final Fantasy 8 they changed the buildings to guns or something (can't remember, its been along time since I've played it) I could be wrong though...

by rpgpro001 - 2008-11-12 16:28
» It could be, but....

that is 1 hell of a stretch, comparing the tower to Alexander. The idea of remaking final fantasy VII sounds good and all, but Square has to prove themselves again before they can do that. Until I see FFXIII and VS XIII, KH birth by sleep, KH 358/2 days, and Dissidia, and they are all great releases, i don't even want them to think about making a remake (too afraid of them messing it up). As far as this game is concerned, i hope it turns out to be something epic. Only time will tell
