» yes...

The father of the PlayStation deserves such an honor, regardless of his recent acts.

What has this guy contributed really?

Ignoring the fact that he just put his name at the front of the project, it was actually underlings who did everything, none of the playstation consoles have done anything for gaming. Using discs is the only thing that set it apart from the N64, and it wasn't the first console to do it, so it wasn't a huge innovation or anything.

I'm not trying to complain or anything, I just really dont understand what he's done to deserve an award.

» Ummm

wikipedia buddy. yes it takes people under him to make it happen, but it was his vision and drive that gave them the path.

» vision?

I don't think he was anybody special. People just as smart designed the N64, Saturn, Gamecube, XBOX, Dreamcast, etc.

He worked on the SNES CD add on, it was scrapped, and he didn't want that to go to waste. Sony didn't want to waste the money either so they invested in Playstation. SO?

One thing is for sure, never let him say anything publicly about a console he designed! His ego is through the roof! It's also obvious he makes a lot more than us because everything is too cheap to him.

» Yea...

So what if he played a vital role in launching the most successful video game console in history.

Not to mention with the launch of the Playstation he brought a company new to the market and pounded the two companies that had dominated it for years.

I think back to the Playstation launch and the development houses it brought into the market and I am in awe of how much it did change the direction of the video game industry.

The mistakes Sony (and to some degree Kutaragi) has made this generaton take nothing away from the innovation and direction they led the industry with the last two generations.

» have to agree with rein

yeah, smart people made other consoles, but not to the extent that they wiped the floor with the competition over 2 generations!! i myself had both a sega saturn and dreamcast rather than the playstation brand in MY opinion, they were the better machines, and yet the playstation 1 & 2 were marketed as the must own consoles!!! i did buy a ps2 eventually after the dreamcast died a glorious death!! sniff sniff!! ken could do no wrong in the last two gens so i think he deserves it!! pity he had to fall on his sword over the ps3 though, but he still deserved this accolade!!!

Are you kidding me they have contributed in great products and great game system of all time. His brilliance and knowledge is a great loss but his apprentice who has leanr most of what he knows will step up.

Something MS has yet to make on this business let alont 100s of million. So yeah He is somebody special more so than any of us on this site combined.
