It looks like Sony is really going all out to entice indie developers into making games for the PSP Minis program. AN SCEE document uncovered by GamerBytes reveals some of the steps Sony is taking to make things easier on Minis devs.

According to the document, pretty much everything released on the PlayStation Network require a US$ 0.16 fee per gigabyte of data. For Mini games, this bandwidth fee will be removed. There's also no minimum sales threshold, so devs will still get paid even if their game doesn't sell too well.

There will also be no restrictions on the number of games a dev can release through a publisher, so we can probably expect multiple games from a single publisher released in a month. Speaking of releases, the devs themselves will also have control on when they release their games. There are also no more requirements for content approval and the quality assurance process has been made much shorter.

You can read the entire .pdf document by clicking here. Keep in mind that this is from SCEE, so things might not be the same in other regions.

Sony what makes you think we are interested............

Sony what makes you think we are interested............ in these so called mini games, because personally, i don't think there is one mobile phone game out there worth the money, let alone a mini game for hand held consoles, as usual we the consumer will be ripped off, with over pricing of these games, you wait, they will charge us £9.99 - £14.99 each for these, and quite frankly that is not on. Why don't you ask us the people who matter, what we want from our PSP's. Oh no that would be too easy wouldn't it. Just had to get that off of my chest......Rant over.

hmm

People pay for Iphone apps so why not psp mini's? and didnt sony say nothing is going to be more then 4 bucks I think? and a 100mb size cap? all this sounds good to me, faster and easier to release these games so why wouldnt you?
by SolidSnake117 - 2009-08-24 11:45:02
i'd ask for...

i'd want a luaplayer script runner, a proper psp certified one that you dont need cfw to use. Then people can make games and upload them for free :D, and psp users can make games, of course filter out all the v0.001 of the programs, no one wants to play an alien invaders that the only part that works is the tank going side to side, and no aliens coded yet. Do you agree??
by emcp - 2009-08-24 11:47:31
mmm

you sir are ignorant sony has already stated prices which come close to matching the average iphone game what sony is doing, is, theyre finally listening portable hardcore games dont sell, or should i say, dont have a long lifespan sure everyone wants it, but the majority of those people would stay at home to play the hardcore content why are there so many casual games on mobiles because its been proving that casual games are suited to mobile devices, quick pick me ups sony should try and get crash commando on the psp i own it for ps3, but dont play it simply because theres not much action, sound or new scenes for it to take over a large tv the game is a casual game but isnt being treated as one sony is finally doing things right again
by apex05 - 2009-08-24 12:16:03
Al last

After 3 years of getting things wrong Sony's finally using some common sense.

I agree with both points of view

I think this is a good thing because of the fact that the PSP will get more games. And if the PSP gets 100 new games, and 90% suck, that's still 10 more good games for the PSP, which desperately needs them. That's just an example; I don't really pretend to know the actual numbers. But i also don't want the PSP to switch to mainly 'casual pick-em-ups.' I enjoy a game that has enough depth so that I can improve my character(s) or status in the game and save, then pick up where I left off. I also don't have the money for a this-gen home console system, mp3-player, and mobile game device. So my PSP is all of those things for me in one package; which I'm guessing a lot of people in this recession are. (i don't know if the recession is affecting more than the US, so i guess i'm only addressing them.) My point in saying all that is that the PSP is my main gaming platform. So i get both positions, but I'd still rather Sony support the devs!

KingPepper: what makes you think all of us PSP owners aren't interested? I think it's a great idea and certainly interested in seeing what games they produce. Nice way to get more indie stuff on the platform too. And I really don't think £9.99 and £14.99 are the prices you're likely to see. Heck, some 'big' PSP games have been released on the store for around those prices lately so don't expect a mini to cost that much. The point of them is that they're small cheap little games perfect for 'on the go' play. emcp: I can't see Crash Commando working too well on PSP. Even on PS3 I have to squint a bit to see what's going on. I tried zooming in via the distance option but it doesn't go far enough and besides it means other players seem to be able to see you before you see them.

my darn paragraphs didn't work...

...

Oh they did. And the error messages I was getting at the top of the page are gone now. Dunno what that was all about... Sorry for the extra messages.
by apex05 - 2009-08-24 14:41:53
Yeah

Opening the Psp up to shovelware might mean 90% of the games suck, but these mini games will have very low development costs so the extra profits could mean developers take the risk with more AAA titles, and if you can filter through the crap you can find and only buy the good games.
by phiyuku - 2009-08-24 14:43:12
These arent Sony developing them

so PSP switching to casual will be almost impossible. We will still get the games we know and love from Sony and we get the casual ones from indie developers. These games aren't made by Sony but people like me and you provided they buy the $1000+ dev kit.

@SolidSnake117

Lua is a terrible language - Pawn is much more suited to anything game-related as a scripting language. Still a horrible approach to program anything decent with though.
by mohf - 2009-08-24 18:35:56
What the hell?

Okay. It's true. It's indeed to good to be true. Stupid of me thinking that we can finally make our own games and upload them for free on PSN. After lots of reading and research, I found this: ----- Develop Title Once you have completed the signup process you will be able to order any required development hardware and develop your minis titles. The current price for a PSP™ Development Tool is €1200. ----- €1200 EURO!!! THIS "Minis" is just a way to let people buy Sony's development kit... It probably costed €5000 orso and now lowered the price to €1200. Whats the point of all this bull*****. €1200 euro!!!!!!
by linked2thepast06 - 2009-08-24 19:07:14
no restrictions..

LAst thing we need is shovelware at launch like the wii. Less restrictions isn't always a good thing.
by apex05 - 2009-08-24 20:30:18
^^^

They could make a million crappy shovelware games but no-one's being forced to buy them, so you only have yourself to blame if you don't do your research and buy a game you don't like.
by KingPepper - 2009-08-24 23:02:29
@emcp, ok i am ignorant, but what if i am right!!!

i read that the games are going to be under $10 each, oh big deal, take a look at the quality of these crap games, and i guarantee you will NOT want to buy any of these 15 games being released on launch day with the PSP Go, here take a look for yourselves if you don't believe me. http://kotaku.com/5340111/psp-minis-bite+sized-fun-at-bite+sized-prices/gallery/ If anyone buys any of those games it will be because they either have more money than sense, or are retarded. in my eyes Sony are still ripping us off, as these games should be as one download priced at $9.99 for all 15 games, now thats more like it.
by WiiRolled - 2009-08-25 07:44:53
Uhm

1200 %u20AC isn't a big investment if you're working in a small gaming dev company, planning to professionally develop and sell games. Pay that money one time, develop unlimited games and earn your money with them. Of course, it isn't really something a hobby dev should consider investing in. Sony still wants to have quality titles in their PSN. Look at the apple appstore to see what happens if everyone can release their *****ty games. Thousands of apps on the store, from which 5 % are worth buying it. BUt it's pretty hard to find the good titles inside off all the *****loads of crappy apps. Limiting developing to more professional little companies is a good thing.
by Torch - 2009-08-25 10:57:03
Wait..

So developers actually have to pay MORE to get a game on the PSN???
by WiiRolled - 2009-08-25 11:52:28
No

Did you even read the article?
by truk - 2009-08-25 15:10:58
@kingpepper

youre wrong and everyone else is right. -5000 points
by KingPepper - 2009-08-25 17:24:36
@truk,

So what you are saying is you would rather pay $10 per game + not $9.99 for all 15.......... You sir are retarded, because everyone except you, and one other agree with me, you two are going to get ripped off, go ahead be my guest. LOL HA HA HA HA ROLFL
by truk - 2009-08-26 15:27:40
@kingpepper

ummm no one has agreed with you. actually, the majority have ok'd the minis.. also, we haven't even seen any of these mini games yet. so to say that they aren't worth what they're charging is stupid. youre stupid. -5001 points.
by KingPepper - 2009-08-27 09:04:57
Thats ok, you have your opinion...........

and i have mine, lets see what happens shall we, lets say in 1 month after the games are released, if the price is dropped of these titles, then that will be because nobody is buying + downloading them, thus i will be right, on the other hand, if the titles do well + stay at there original prices then i will hold up my hand to being wrong. But lets just see for ourselves. Remember everyone's entitled to there opinion, even me. :oD
