Sony trademarks Adhoc Party in US; service finally heading overseas? |
Ó

Adhoc Party is a Japan-only service that allows PSP owners to play online via a PS3 even if their games are adhoc-only. It's perfect for games like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and other games that support only local wireless multiplayer.
The service has been in beta form in Japan since late last year, but so far Sony has made no move to bring it anywhere else. Yeah, you can download it from the Japanese PSN but it just would've been so much better -- and easier -- if an English version was also available. If this recent trademark spotted by Siliconera is any indication, Sony may finally be gearing up for a Western release.
As the report notes, Adhoc Party has been out for almost 8 months now, so this doesn't seem to be a protective trademark. I personally never understood why Sony chose to sit on Adhoc Party for too long instead of giving it a worldwide beta release a few months after Japan got their beta, so I really hope this pans out. I mean come on, it's about damn time.

It works fine for most NTSC games and whatnot, but it would be much easier to get friends to be able to download it without all the "I can't read it!" crap. Hopefully this hits soon.
But if Sony promotes this in some way they could use it as a selling point. I tend to post it up at forums I go to as a selling point for PS3 over 360. Both systems are good but the ability to play any ad-hoc only game against anyone else as long as you have a PS3 is awesome.
It might be pushed out once Dissidia comes out because of how big FF is in the US.
i just wanted to get this straight. the ad hoc party thing lets you use your ps3 as a wifi access point to play psp games online? that would be awsome! i was woundering why that wasnt emplimented already cuz theirs all this talk about the psp go being able to "teather" internet via bluetooth and a cell phone and it would only be odvious to do so via ad hoc. if its not to much to ask for... could some one give me a couple steps to download it via jap store?
Was about damn time
Kind of, The PSP connects to the PS3 and the PS3 sends the data to other players. This essentially makes you the host and you are responsible for the connection. There are no actual servers.
For a way to get it go here : http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?message.uid+40775493
After thinking about this, I am assuming that Sony will promote this as soon as the PSP GO! is released, seems like the perfect time to reveal this to the masses.
Remember that Ad-Hoc party will NOT work when you are using a wireless connection on your PS3.
To get that link to work change the + to an +.
i tried so hard to get it to work but i can't read the japanese. this is going to be awesome!
just in time for tekken 6..
when will this come out i hope b4 school starts
Since you asked so nicely, please try the following link...
www.capcom-unity.com/bastion6six6/blog/2009/05/22/official_capcom_adhoc_party_tutorial_blog
If that link doesn't work, let me know. I can email you. Qj likes to substitute letters and characters sometimes.
Those steps will work if you do it correctly. But at the end if you have any problems remember to go into the first section of Ad-Hoc party and agree to the license agreement. Just ender the first section and go over to the last page. You'll see what I'm talking about if you need to do that. They don't show you that in the Capcom Unity tutorial.
but the more i think about this it just kinda sounds dangerous... cuz of hackers, dont thay like to hack into servers? and if your essentially using your ps3 as a server dosnt it kinda leave it vonerable? i rember before i had cfw i was playing mpo+ and throu rc (real combat) i agreaded to trade soldgiers with some one. long story short he said he scaned something on my psp, laughted and i never saw him again. shortly after that, i pluged psp into pc to put music on it and pc said my psp had a trogen viruse... i clicked "heal" and didnt have any problems after that. i really like the idea of this adhoc party but i think i will try to play with people i know and/or trust
