Sony TouchEngine patent reveals multi-purpose touch-screen control

The Sony HQ in Japan recently filed a patent for "TouchEngine" which, from what it seems, could be used in a variety of hardware ranging from, mobile phones, gaming controllers, to audio/video media devices. With the PSP Go and the PS3 motion controller well on their way, will this pave the way for Sony's next piece of hardware?

Sony hardware, quite possibly. But if TouchEngine will have anything at all with the PlayStation brand is another story. It was Sony HQ that filed the trademark, not SCE, so this one can fall under any or some of Sony's many businesses.

There can be many possibilities as to what TouchEngine may turn out to be - possibly a multi-purpose touch-screen controller for media devices, or a form of touch-screen technology to be used in Sony's next line of gadgetry. Theories, anyone?

» Nah...

My guess is it's some kind of universal remote. Something like Logitech's Harmony series.

» Vibration

Every other Patent Sony files people assume it's for one of the Playstations, what i'd like to see is a vibration adapter for Psp, i mean it just feels odd now to play games without feeling them.

» Not a Patent

God, the reporting on this site keeps getting worse and worse. They filed for a trademark, not a patent. The article you directly linked to even has this information. The image they used is from an old Patent. The actual content of the article is about a trademark.

But I guess expecting QJ Bloggers to be able to read and comprehend extremely long and wordy articles like that would be too much to ask.

And how does being a døuchebag with extremely negative and hurtful comments bring anything better to the table? Are you writing articles in your spare time for free? (Which I assume is the case) So what if they misinterpret occasionally, or bring us some stale news. It's here, you don't do ***** for it, so back the fÙck up and chill out.

» Here it comes, the PSP 2 or is it?

Mmm i wonder if its going to be a touch screen keyboard for the PSP's, remember the article about "Room" coming to PSP, well in that you are going to need a keypad to chat to other people as you do in PS3 Home!!!!!

But what puzzles me are the lumps around the edge, are they LED's or something, or touch sensitive pads that detect which way around you are holding it.

Or could it be the infamous PSP 2's touch screen, i hope so, with the twin analogue nubs.

He's got a good point considering the first 2 words in the source article is " Sony trademarked..."
