Sony steps in, takes Datel to court over Lite Blue Tool |
Ó
Datel has just revealed that Sony is taking legal action against their service mode battery that advertised itself as a PSP-3000 hacking tool. This is following news of Datel's pulling out of the battery - the Lite Blue Tool - and changing its product description.Actual specifics of the court case weren't revealed, however, this is the statement issued by Datel to PortableVideoGamer, in response to a query about why the orders for the battery haven't arrived yet:
Due to legal action by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe we are currently not able to fulfil orders for the Lite Blue Tool Battery. Any orders received for this product have not been processed and no charges have been made. We will inform customers about availability of this product when this situation has been resolved.
Current speculation over why Sony's taking legal action against Datel holds that they're building the case on the grounds that Datel is using proprietary source code from Sony (i.e. copyright infringement). Supposedly, it's this code that's used on the Lite Blue Tool that allows the "unlocking" of the PSP-3000. If Sony is now building their case on it, they could potentially say that Datel is infringing on their copyright because of their using of the software encryption key.
Thanks to Muffinly Bliss for the heads up!

Thats why no one has been able to crack the PSP-3000 because of the IPL code which has to be cracked in order to inject the CFW. like in the PSP-2000 and fat.
Datel, your a lier and a scamer! tricking people in actually believing u guys have the key to unlock the PSP-3000

They couldnt meet their order quota. So they made up the lawsuit story. this serves 2 purposes.
1) It makes all the doubters out there say that it MUST be legit, otherwise why would sony take them to court over something that doenst do anything anyway
2) It gives them a more legit reason why they havnt shipped the orders than just saying they forgot to run that shift that makes them on time.

I'm glad it happened, after they leeched off the the hard work of Pandora, and failed to supply all information about their "Red Tool" (the fact it wouldn't work without the files). Now its come to the turn of the Blue Tool and Sony has some dirt on them... even if its late they've got their just desserts.
The PSP-3000 could still potientally be cracked using a Pandora'fied battery if someone discovers what exactly needs changing, and if they could also crack the new IPL... personally though I'm happy to see exploits again, has that race feel it had in the old days. (Hackers v Sony)

datel made first ps2-compatible memory cards that worked out of the box with ps2 (by allegedly reverse-engineering magic gate).
they do have some credit for some of their products. they steal from homebrew community, they reverse-engineer sony's protections. sometimes homebrew community returns the favor
i think that's the way it is. they probably came with some ideas on their own, and copied the rest. too bad they don't give credit where it's due (as with their service mode psp batteries).
the thing about sony's lawsuit - if it has been proven that it does not work with psp3k - i guess it's a marketing stunt. or something along the lines.

anyways grow up and quit hating on datel because they did what none of us could afford to do. true they may lose out, but now not only do we not have a CFW for psp3k, but we dont even have a service battery yet. its a shame datel wont get to ship these.
