Blu-ray Discs - Image 1If you could remember from way back CES 2008, the PSP Portable Copy feature allows Blu-ray movie downloads from the Playstation 3 to the PSP. While this perk may not arrive yet with the upcoming PS3 firmware 2.2, we may still have room for hope that the wait won't be that long.

Sony has given Kotaku an estimate of  "later this year" for the release of PSP Portable Copy. That is a general assessment, however, since Sony also confirms that there are no specific timetables for the feature as of yet.

Citing sources from Sony Pictures, Sony says the technology is still under development. Therefore, the need for a PS3 firmware update to access the feature is still up in the air.

But late 2008 is not that far away if you think about it. The technology may just need finishing touches from this point on. Uncertain as that may be, rest assured that we will keep reporting the latest developments from the Sony front. Keep checking back here at QJ.NET.

failed to mention a few key points. Portable copy only allows for copying of movies (blu-ray OR DVD) which have portable copy versions of the movie ALREADY on the media. This does not allow for any blu-ray or DVD to be transcoded and transfered to the PSP. Also some blu-ray and DVD media (from Sony studios) have already been including portable copy content since late 2007. dont remember which titles already have portable copy off the top of my head, however they are out there.

They appear to have left out the details you mention on purpose. What would be the point of explaining the same stupid detail in every post to do with portable copy? If they did that, they'd still be explaining what a DVD is. Or what an mp3 is. Or what a byte is.

This post is about the release dates, not the technical details.
