Despite lots of skepticism and disinterest surrounding the new model, Sony is proud to reveal that PSP Go sales have met expectations. Believe it or not, the PSP Go has helped PSP hardware sales to shoot up 120% since its launch on October 1st.

"PSPgo has performed in line with our expectations, driving 100 per cent incremental volume for the category and has benefited the broad PSP portfolio with PSP-3000 also enjoying a big lift," said SCEE in a statement, later clarifying that hardware sales are up 120% compared to the previous week, with the PSP Go selling as many units as the PSP-3000.

As for actual sales figures, GamesIndustry contacted Chart-Track in the UK, only to be turned down. "It's a new format and we are simply not revealing the figures for public consumption," said director Dorian Bloch.

Well, the news really doesn't come as a surprise, seeing as it's only week one for the Go. Good job on that regard, but question remains whether or not the Go can keep this up long enough to be a success.

I wonder how many people bought a PSP Go and a few UMD games to go along with it. You just know some people did this.

» Too bad.

Your link doesn't speak about sales figures being positive or negative. It speaks of (possibly temporary) price drops.

No points awarded.

» Not much

A console only managing to equal sales of the older version of itself on it's launch weekend is a bit pathetic really, i'm more interested in the Japanese launch next month because they love their handhelds and if they don't like this thing you know it's gonna fail.

» Well...

The Go did just came out, you know.

Launch weekends are usually the best selling time for any console, so makes no difference if it's just been released, most of the early buyers have bought it already so sales will probably drop well below the Psp 3000.

» Really...

Why anyone would buy a PSP Go is beyond me. I guess kids just have to have the latest gadget.
