Imagine it's October 1. The PSP Go is out and in your hands. So what kind of content can you look forward to downloading. According to Sony, you can get your pick from almost 16,000 pieces of downloadable content.

Big number, eh? Of course, that's not limited to new content. Also counted in that number are the many PSP titles, movies and TV shows already available for download on the PlayStation Network. Here's a breakdown of what you can get from the PlayStation Store:
  • 225 downloadable games (full PSP titles, PSN exclusives, UMD legacy titles and Minis)
  • 2,300 movies
  • 13,300 TV episodes
Sony also hasn't completely forgotten about retailers after all. As a concession to retailer woes about the Go's download-only model, Sony is letting retailers sell PlayStation Network Game Cards, which are voucher codes that you can buy at the store so you can download a game for your PSP Go. Some of the first games to be voucher-friendly are Gran Turismo, Patapon 2, Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Am I Missing something????

If Sony is going to allow retailers to sell these PSN Game cards, why won't they allow consumers to trade in there old UMD games for these cards. This would allow old psp users the ability to keep their library of games and would further support the PSP Go...or am I really missing something here?
by m3rox - 2009-09-28 01:07:29
.

83 1/8% television shows.
by FreePlay - 2009-09-28 03:12:20
Yes, you are.

If you trade in a bunch of UMDs for games that can now be *downloaded*, you are giving a retailer a bunch of *useless* used games, because they no longer have a reason to *sell* physical copies of games.

No, he isn't.

The PSP Go is not replacing the PSP-3000. That will only happen if the Go is a runaway success, which isn't going to happen. So, for those who don't want the lame go, the physical copies will hardly become useless...

They actually counted individual TV episodes? That's quite hilarious. This was the initial problem with the PSP - they focussed too much on ancillary media when it's games that makes these devices. That's a lot of games though. Just laughing my arse off that they said 16k downloads in some attempt to battle the iPod. It's as if they're going back to their stupid quote days. 4D PS3, "it's not a console it's a PC" and all that.

not gonna happen

the biggest problem for Sony to have trade in program is how to collect the umd. in your example, Sony is using retailer as an outlet for exchange program. obviously retailer won't let Sony to give you psn cards for 'free' when you trade your umd. from retailer's perspective. they have their own trade in system. which is taking your umd for cheap and sell it at higher price. see it this way. you have God of War CoO UMD. let's say it cost $30 on psn store. retailer won't let you simply trade in that umd for $30 psn cards. they're gonna accept trade in for that umd for probably $10 or $15. then you have to buy the $30 psn cards to get GoW CoO on your psp go. that's how their business works. SOny would love to do what you just said. but retailer won't allow it. especially since in your scenario. Sony rely on these retailer for the trade in program.

Not the first time Sony has fudged numbers.

Remember the 100 million polygons for the PS2? Too bad they never mentioned that you could only achieve that number when they weren't filled in with color and there was no sound. Ken Kutaragi may be gone from Sony, but his legacy of stretching the truth to it's absolute boundaries in order to play off of consumer ignorance still lives on.

danm retailers..

that sucks though about what the retailers would do IF there was a type of trade in program...I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Go, but I actually do have some real physical copies of games. lol

Anyone wanna buy a

used God of War PSN code? Sony's new business model is not in the consumer's best interest. Video Game prices are too high and making everything PSN only not only hurts retailers but consumers, as well by completely locking down pricing and destroying any chance to have a used market. When I spend $40-$60 on an entertainment media, it has to be transferrable to all my devices and offer me the opportunity to resell it at a later date. By not providing these capabilities, digital downloads reduce the value provided by the product without any corresponding reduction in cost.
by KingPepper - 2009-09-28 12:18:51
Sell it on Ebay.

its safer all round on there, not a good idea to sell as you are asking though. Just for peace of mind.

Haha you guys are hilarious. Ok i admit i got irritated. These people just dont know how to do "it" anymore. Lmao video games in general is really starting to grind my gears. Haha oyea i really do have to do a essay. But i cant use the psp go as a subject..... Or the ipod touch... Or the ps3. Stupid argument based research class! I could write a killer argument based on that stuff.
by squintin - 2009-09-28 15:34:11
Wow...

No one "Chippped In". Please take this as a sign of how stupid you are.
by danielakadanny - 2009-09-28 17:09:59

"These people just dont know how to do "it" anymore" that is so what she said
by truk - 2009-09-28 17:26:04
@elric: quick points

-the used game industry hurts the game industry -5 psps can download the same game off one purchase. get 5 peeps together and split the costs or sell the chance online. problem solved?
