Godzilla, 1998 - Image 1In case you've backed yourself into a mental corner, forgetting that Sony has more businesses than just PlayStation, then snap out of it. The massive conglomerate has many, many other businesses under that big colorful umbrella and they're showing some corporate synergy with this latest offering. Select Sony Pictures releases on Blu-ray will include a digital copy of the same movie that you can transfer to your PSP.

The transfer can only be made using the PlayStation 3 Blu-ray drive. Furthermore, the digital copy will work only with the PSP. “This latest enhancement to Blu-ray and Digital Copy demonstrates the versatility of the format and its ability to deliver a multi-platform video experience,” said Rich Marty, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment VP for new biz-dev. “It also showcases the unique advantage that the PlayStation 3 brings to the Blu-ray consumer.”

First on the Blu-ray movies listed with the offer will be the release of the Godzilla and The Ugly Truth catalog on Novermber 10th. The Ugly Truth, fortunately, will include a DVD carrying a regular copy of the movie in addition to the Blu-ray and the PSP-only copies. That copy will work on your other media devices.

An enticing concept - get Blu-ray for home, plus a digital copy for portable. For now, the offer is limited to Sony Pictures releases, but it would be much cooler if Sony got other studios to pitch in, or if they included titles on the Video Store to the mix.

Is my memory bad...

or way back when the idea of digital copies of Blu-Ray movies was first announced, Sony had said that they were going to release a firmware update that would allow you to download all Blu-Ray movies to the PSP? That the PS3 would automatically downgrade the video quality to the PSP standards and then copy it to the PSP, so the BD disc wouldn't have to have a second digital copy of the movie on the disc for it to work.

yeah

I remember that and IT NEVER HAPPENED. Sigh.

LOL

This was supposed to happen back in 2008 along with PS3 firmware 2.20. HAHA

DAMN

THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH AN IDEA LIKE THIS EXCEPT FOR THE PSP!

Actually thinking about it...

they should create a FW for the PS3 and the PC that all you would have to do is just connect the USB to the PS3/PC and then you would have to open a program and have the UMD in the original PSP and the program will make the PSP read the disk and transfer the game directly to the PSP GO and save it just as a back up and not require a save on either PS3/PC to prevent piracy and just limit the systems that are enabled to have the transfer to prevent the piracy as well...

but I do see a flaw...friends could just let each other borrow a game but sony could put a type of identification on the UMD such as a special decoder and make the PSP implement it onto the UMD

but then there is another flaw such as the used game industry or however you call it cause then you will not be able to copy the game if you choose if they do implement the identification but then retailers could just get a mechanism to take off that identification but it would cost money too

hmmm any thoughts from you guys/girls?
