Sony not worried by price gap between PSP and PSP Go in Japan |
Ó
Now that Sony has announced a price cut for the PSP-3000 in Japan, there will be a sizable gap between that and the forthcoming PSP Go. Problem is, there's still plenty of doubt as to the potential of the latter in making sales. Considering that the PSP-3000 can run UMDs, is compatible with existing accessories, and can be ChickHENabled, the PSP Go might lose a lot of attention to its older brother. What say you Sony? No problemo.
"That's fine. We have no intention to stop producing the PSP-3000," said Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida, who assures PSP gamers that games will still be released in both UMD and digital form. While he did note that some games will be download-only, major titles will still be available for both. "We will continue supporting the UMD format," Yoshida added.
What still needs answering is that how Sony will get consumers to opt for the Go over a more practical PSP-3000. Well, we'll be keeping an eye on the sales charts when they come.

Good to see Sony shooting themselves with the Go. I certainly don't want it to succeed. And even if it is homebrew enabled down the line the fact that it uses micro MS won't be very helpful either. Digital Distribution is nice and all, but it should never replace physical media. I like owning games and if everything was DD, you can bet the companies would eventually throw in terms like leasing and what not.
I hate how sony is trying to do download only for some psp games. It's like their trying to force you to get a "psp go",Yet thats one system i never wanted in the first place.
The downloads are available for regular psps too...
It's always the problem Sony always saying they not worried when they do something and get bad public response, they made so many mistakes they really should get their head out their arse and listen to us, they might believe it but we not all whining Pirates.
But if Fate Stay Night is anything to go by (no pun intended) then download only content will be extortionate. Any full games being download only is bad news for the consumer. I've had time to reflect over a lot of Sony's comments regarding this device, and can only come to the conclusion that, despite the marketing buzzwords and telling us that "this is what the consumer has told Sony they want", this is actually about what Sony and the Devs want. A trapped market, fixed prices, region-locked content and a total reliance on Sony for hardware repairs (batteries) and software availablility. Given how utterly incompetent SCEE are, the deal looks even more unnattractive. This latest comment from Sony shows just how little regard they have for the console buing public - it'll be fine, of course, the public are stupid. Not us Sony, you.
LMAO!!!! Sony has became the f#cking laughing stock of the gaming industry. I mean looks to me like they don't want to sell many pspGO units. It's going to be the biggest no go for the GO. Ditched the umd to digital content program. The free game offer is not for North America. I won't buy one. (I have a 1001, a 2001, and a 3K1 psp already.) HHHHMMM... Well whatever. I don't see much coming from the GO anyway. Just another hardware revision in my eyes. SONY=Fail!!!!
then why do you have 3 psp's??
I think i can answer that for him, because Psp 1K, 2K and 3000 are proper consoles and the Psp go is just a badly compromised rip off.
All 3 of mine have CFW. :) I used to buy the UMD's and will start buying them again If we don't get a 6.00CFW soon. But again... It's a no GO for me. it's also very small. I just don't like it.
you guys are sutch f|_|ckin retards sony looks at all the m33 and what not sights and every body rights "finally i dont have to carry my umds anymore" thats y they made the GO they thought peeople would by it insteed of piratcy i agree its pretty stupid but lets see you make one and create the hardware and stuff KUDOS sony AND I WILL TRY TO GET THE MONEY TO BUY A GO
I'm sure Sony will be happy to take your $250 for this thing and repeatedly rape your wallet everytime you buy something, i predict a MASSIVE number of used Psp Go's on the market within 2 weeks of release with people realising their mistake, and within a month can get a huge saving on used Psp Go's because people not willing to buy second hand for anywhere near the new price.
