Sony Launches New Budget PSP Games Range in Japan |
Almost a year after the PlayStation Portable was released in Japan, Sony has announced plans to launch a new budget range for the handheld under the label PSP: The Best.
Hit titles will be repackaged and resold at the lower price point of 2800 Yen (just under 20 Euro) - full price PSP games currently retail for around 5040 Yen (24 Euro). The first batch of games will be released on November 17, and will be comprised of Metal Gear Acid, Minna No Golf Portable, Vampire Chronicle, Mojipitan, Ridge Racer, Lumines and Armoured Core Formula Front.
The next wave of titles - Need for Speed Underground, Derby Time, Dokodemo Issho, Poporo Crois Monogatari, Tales of Eternia and Rengoku - will follow on December 1.
Sony launched a similar range, PS2: The Best, nearly three years ago. To qualify for inclusion, each title must have sold at least 100,000 copies. Sony did not disclose whether PSP games must meet the same criteria.

That's cause they won't. XD
These suckers will probably be encoded with the "latest-greatest" 2.5 version update...Meaning they won't be too hot for people wanting to stay with homebrew...Sounds more like the PSP's "BEST USELESS SCRAP EVER".
20.00 EUR = 23.6824 USD
24.00 EUR = 28.4189 USD
Except the original math is wrong: 5040 yen is actually roughly 36 Euro, not 24. I think half of the original calculation was for british pounds rather than Euro.
So the actual price drop is:
5040y = $43 USD
2080y = $24 USD
Which means that $40 games for the PSP should come down to $20, maybe $45 to $25 or something similar, just like they did for the PS2.

5040y = $43 USD
2800y = $24 USD
As usual prices oversea's are cheaper then where I live (canada). Heck even the used games are expensive. To bad all the nice cheap prices never hit Canada. The day we see those prices for good titles are like 2-3 years down the road. Just like how i finally picked up ghost in the shell for the ps2 recently for like 9bucks canadian.

Good point apo - I got all excited about picking up some new titles on the cheap, but that's not gunna happen if I have to upgrade. The upside is that used copies of these same games should see a similar price drop though, so I can get some ones that don't require firmware upgrade.
