Sony document unveils PSN video download serviceSony will be holding its Mid-Term Corporate Strategy meeting today. Based on a slide presentation we've picked up pertaining to this event, the company has a lot planned for PSN, the PlayStation 3, and the PSP.

For one, the company has unveiled that it's making plans to introduce a video download service via PSN as part of a massive video service campaign for all their products, to be completed by fiscal year 2010.

A press wire from the company further indicates that this new service will be hitting by summer of this year. Sony's slide also notes that PSN currently has 9.8 million subscribers worldwide. With regard to the PSP, Sony revealed in their presentation that there are plans to enable the handheld to access the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation 3 is expected to receive some cost cutting measures, which include a reduction in its number of parts and chip size. While it wasn't detailed, we imagine this has something to do with Toshiba's plans to manufacture 45 nm RSX chips for the PlayStation 3 within this year. Gaming-wise, SCE indicated that it has several titles lined up for fiscal year 2008 (April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009):
Yup - after nearly eight months of information limbo, it looks like SCE's going to be releasing Level 5's production somewhere between here and early 2009. That's the lowdown on the bigger details that Sony's corporate meeting presentation unveiled - those interested in viewing the rest of the slide show can access it at the Sony Global site, via the source link below.

# 45nm + 45 nanometersValiX 2008-06-26 02:41
nm stands for nanometers which is one billionth of a meter or one millionth of a millimeter.

To give you and idea of how small: Visible light occurs between 400 - 700 nm

Small eh?

Pretty much what ValiX said, It's to do with the size of the transistors in the CPU (or GPU in this case.) Smaller transistors produce less heat and draw less power and therefore are more efficient. Also despite the fact you would think they would be more difficult/expensive to produce they are usually sold just as cheap.

...meaning the manufacturers won't need to spend as much on raw materials to get a certain number of chips off the assembly line.

This equates to lower production costs, which (hopefully) results in cheaper products.

Are they going to explain what the hell you do on this game, I'm thinking it's just ZooTycoon, but you manage a Game Reserve and the graphics will probably be great. Just a guess.

An online mode where you protect animals from poachers could be fun. Not watching were you're running, look around and you in the middle of a pride of lions, they tear you to shreds, f'king awesome. I doubt it'll be anything like that though.

shouldn't be the price for Blu-Ray drives also be cheaper by now?

DVD drive prices decreased dramatically since it got mainstream. Blu-Ray isn't mainstream yet, but it's certainly on a good way.

i agree that blu-ray drives should go just a little bit cheaper... but as for the ps3... you cant really get any cheaper for such an advanced and powerfull system if ya think about it. $400 retail is not that bad at all considering the xbox elite is $479 witch i believe is a rip off.

i say the ps3 ( wen it does go down in price) should hit $350 and thats it.

people need to stop crying and wyning about price wen they either spent $250 for a wii with most likely wii fit witch adds more dollar signs to it,or a 360 witch at least i think is around $279 and comes with nothing usefull exccept a pre-gen sytem with a wimpy 1gb memory HDD.

ya know, for $100 more you get blu-ray,bluetooth,n ext gen video games et ect ect.. ( the list could go on for a very long time but you get my drift ).

Check this, on fathers day Wal-Mart had a Blu-ray player and the PS3 on the same page of an ad they sent out. The PS3 was $400, but the Blu-ray player was like $500. You would have to HATE video games to buy the Phillips Blu-ray player. I don't get the prices either. If a PS3 is $400 I couldn't see spending more than $200-$250 for a blu-ray player. I personally think they would sell like crazy at $200, but that's just me.

Yes I am a Playstation fanboy since I was 7 (now I'm 19) and I got my PSX. But tell me what's so pre-gen in X360 if graphics look pretty similar?
