Sony demanding US$ 188,000 in legal fees from Lik-Sang |

Just when we all thought Lik-Sang has hit rockbottom, here comes yet another blow to their already severely damaged company. After causing the online retail company to close down because of the multiple lawsuits filed against them, Sony is actually demanding the payment of £ 100,000 (US$ 188,000) in legal fees by November 1st. This news stirred up mix reactions, with some people saying Sony deserves to get it, while some would say that there's just no sense kicking somebody when he's already down. Says Pascal Clarysse, Lik-Sang's marketing director, "Sony should be proud of having such a die-hard import gamers community rushing to buy their products and supporting them with a passion. Instead, they march all over us."
As for Lik-Sang's allegation that four of the top executives of Sony Europe actually got their own PSPs via Lik-Sang just a few days after the Japanese launch, well, it's just safe to surmise that was pretty embarrassing for them. However, Sony in Tokyo declined to comment on the issue, citing the reason that they have this no-comment policy on pending or completed legal action.
Ironic, though, is Sony's revision of shipment forecasts for PSP from 12 million units down to 9 million units supposedly because of a decline in demand for the handheld, just when they succeeded in closing down an unauthorized sales channel to patrons from Europe.

After hearing this, I have to say I am not impressed since Liksang were one of the best online merchants I have ever dealt with and I have purchased countless times from them over the year.

This wasn't necessary,Sony dudes think everybody should buy the console and the games from their country..But the fact is nothing new is available..A game is released in Japan, and after months,it is released in Europe and USA..Also there are games which is Japan only..You can't have it even if you are Bill Gates, living in USA or EU..And if you import it,you are being illegal??
Come On..!!!
I live in Europe and I did not wait for my PSP to release in Europe,I bought it from Japan..
If Sony releases every product in every region at the same time, games included, nothin g like this would happen..
But I know this will never happen..

But really there was just no reason to buy them at the full cost they wanted. Sony would have just had so much better a chance to sell them if there psp had been able to output videos to tv's.

There's one thing left. That is, to boycott Sony.

I never used Lik-Sang, but seeing as how they were effectively generating and feeding support for Sony's products, (such as the PSP) for those who couldn't get their hands on the product, (i.e. us poor suckers in Europe who are line in line for everything, and always have to pay the most for it), I thought they were doing a good job.
Sony's actions in killing Lik-Sang are reprehensible, and that means myself, (and many others I'd imagine), feel they can no longer feed the faceless, profiteering entity that Sony has become.

I used to import Megadrive games for the Genesis. The companies still get their money one way or another.

Anyway wow this is a surprise the losers of a lawsuit have to pay court cost. Gees that's never happened before. The thing is that 1) Lik-sang was asked to stop selling PSPs to Europe early and they choose to ignore it and look what happened. If they had just stopped selling them until the release date in Europe then all would have been OK and they would still be around.
Also everyone says we need to write Sony letters on sign an online petition. Has that stuff ever worked? I can't think of one time when an online petition has ever done anything. Plus people keep saying that they are going to boycott Sony and not buy a PS3. Fine I don't think a few little Internet crybabies not getting a PS3 will really hurt Sony at all. So they may loose the sell of 500 PS3s ooh that's bad. The people that say this either 1) couldn't afford one anyway or 2) are just saying this to sound cool. If you hate Sony so much why are you on a site that is dedicated to one of their products? Also before you call me a fanboy which seems to be the standard comment if someone disagrees with someone on this issue. I have a 360 and will get a Wii and a PS3 when they come out so who's side am I on now?
Lastly you can flame me of call me gay or a noob or whatever the standard comeback. As the insults of random Internet people that I don't know or will never see do not matter in the least to me.
*P.S. Make sure you check my spelling and grammar because I would hate to misspell something or forget an apostrophe in the comments section of a gaming website, oh the shame.*

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/06/19/nintendo_wins_liksang_piracy_case/
I know Sony's made their name look bad, and it seems like whatever they do, they usually end up making themselves look more stupid... starting with the prerendered videos at E3 2005, then the so called copying of the wii-mote's gyrosopic capabilities, to the various conceited or idiotic remarks, the fact sheet, and now the suing of lik-sang.
But this isn't the first time Lik-sang has been sued, and it hasn't always been by sony. since everyone seems to keen on seeing sony fail, anything they do is looked down upon.
Nintendo and Microsoft has sued Lik-sang before too... and Liksang has shut down before, but it looks like if any of these companies do it, everyone will see justification in it.
Honestly if Sony leaves the videogame scene, I'll probably be even more sad than seeing an import site like Lik-sang die.

Why sue a Company thats Promoting there products!
If i was a company I would let some Piratesie Pass.. In order to help promoting....But there is always a LINE!
But Liksang wasnt CROSSING THAT LINE!
And sony is wondering why they fail in COnsoles :\
WHAT WRONG WITH YOU SONY!!!! WAKE UP GODDAMMED!!!!!

Nintendo sued Lik-Sang and Lik-Sang closed down
Sony sued Lik-Sang and Lik-Sang closed down
See the pattern, every time Lik-Sang close down they dont have to pay any legal fees. and then they just reregister the company and start trading again. Eveyone has sued them and everytime they close down and blame the plaintif.

For example of their crappy merchandise read this
My sony video recorder had chips in it, I returned it for yet another camera, only this time the thing didnt even work. Sony PSP's haveing multiple dead pixels and sony doing nothing. Now lets look at nintendo. If you had even one dead pixel, you could call up nintendo, they send you a new DS, and when you get the ds you send send back your old one. For free! Put sony next to any company and they will look like the devil itself!

LOL don't be foolish and claim that Sony is doomed...the same thing was said when the PS2 came out. Aww yes, victory is near.

Before you call me a fanboy, I'd just like to point out that I own a number of generations of console, and Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony equipment already.
I think it is a cumulative thing - from my own (European) point of view, consider the following:
- No European release of PS3 until 2007,
- PSP released in Europe almost a year after other territories,
- Lik-Sang forced out of business, meaning one major route for Sony fans to get their hands on PSP / PS3 now unavailable,
- Sony trying to force Blu-Ray on everyone, regardless of the fact the market appears to be indifferent. (Many are reluctant to consider replacing their growing DVD collection so soon after having to replace their VHS collections),
- By the time PS3 gets to Europe, the likelihood is that it will cost significantly more than other territories,
- Xbox 360 is available, has a software base of increasing strength and is reasonably priced,
- Nintendo Wii is imminent, will also be reasonably priced, and looks set to innovate.
These are just a few of the factors in my mind, and despite Sony's apparent lessaiz-faire attitude to Europe, I think a great many Europeans will have had enough of them. Whether this market represents a small proportion of their profits or not, I'd imagine Nintendo and Microsoft will be pleased to take customers off their hands.
Sony would do very well to think long and hard about this.

Lik sang's business was clear and legal, if any of you morrons go get a good look on any world country laws you'll see that is not illegal to import or export any kind of product as long as it respects copyright and you pay a customs fee that will go straight too the government pocket. Sony even if they wanted can and will never succeed in prevent their product exportation to places where they where not released just because the country from it is originally shipped as world commerce and trading rules that go well over sony's reach.
If you're still in doubth go ask your daddy about world commerce and how you translate it so you can figure it all out, and then make a real usefull comment...
