simExchange: Nintendo still leading, title sales not as successful |

Last month's aggregated collection of data from the simExchange has come out with some pretty solid figures for both the next gen consoles and handhelds. The video games market prediction site has also come out with some analytic reports on some of the recent software titles and how they've affected the market.
It's no surprise that Nintendo's console and handheld are still leading the race, with the DS packing in a predicted 1.3 million unit sales and the Wii closely following up with 1.06 million units. Microsoft's Xbox 360 gets the third spot with 728,000 unit sales, while Sony's PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 are straggling behind with 468,000 and 410,000 units respectively.
On the software side, November was a very prolific month with sales estimated to hit more than US$ 1 billion for the first time thanks to titles such as Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Need for Speed, Super Mario Galaxy, and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008.
The simExchange also talks about how Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) was able to break the mainstream market through its costly but effective marketing campaign. For a new IP game, this marks it as one of the most successful titles anticipated for the year.
On the other hand, simExchange also notes that Rock Band (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3) will suffer due to having "too many chefs spoiling the broth". The three-way marketing, advertising and public relations of its three publishers may cause sales to suffer after its initially successful release.
Lastly, Manhunt 2 (PS2, PSP, Wii) was seeing lower sales than initially predicted. After the hype and controversy connected to the game, the somewhat stereotypical gameplay tied to the M-rated game did not appeal to Wii gamers as much as expected.

Another thing is price drops. Even for the Gamecube, GBA, DS, etc, etc, etc. Nintendo rarely ever has price drops kick in. First party titles never drop in price. How many years was Super Smash Brothers 49.99 before it finally went to 29.99 which it's at right now. Four? Nintendogs, NSMB, Mario 64 DS, and just about every other first party game on the Nintendo DS is still the original price it was released for and the ones I listed are games that have been out for atleast a year(Nintendogs and Mario 64 two+.)
So yeah. Nintendo definitely isn't cheap.

The only reason why nintendo even competes is because of.....umm....wait....i cant think of 1 reason......the PSP is a heck of a lot better hardware than what nintendo's NEXT handheld will be.....same with the consoles too though. I havent bought any of the next gens except PSP....ive got a dam good pc, but I've played all 3 and the wii is so dam gimmickie its sad. The motion controlls are so crappy...i guess you could maybe turn it off and play like a real system, but then u just paid $250 for a system that isnt really any better than a $30 gamecube. Anyone above the age of 10 would find it quite crappy, but i guess its cause im not a 10 year old......

Also, we all know that the PSP is only good for it's homebrew, besides that, it's a joke.
