Tetris - Image 1There are three things that I will forever be grateful to Russia for - vodka, Maria Sharapova, and the patriarch of puzzle games, Tetris. Today, June 6th 2009, marks the 25th year after it was conceived by its dad, Alexey Pajitnov.

Tetris is more than just a game, it's an institution, an icon, and inspiration behind the hilarious Japanese Human Tetris game show. To celebrate this milestone, Tetris rights owner Blue Planet Software plans to unveil a motion-based Tetris game later this year.

Details are still a bit scant at the moment, but Blue Planet Software president Henk Rogers has revealed that they plan to unveil a motion-based Tetris game at the Burning Man Celebration this year. The controls will involve a guy standing on a certain platform, using his motions to interact with the pieces falling on a huge screen. No word on which console this game is to be demoed on or released for.

He already expressed his thoughts on Natal, so the logical consequence would be Xbox 360. I bet this comes together with the release of Natal.

Never found any Tetris variation anywhere near as pure and addictive as the original one (the Gameboy version being the most ideal) and I can't see a version using some sorta motion sensing (I've still yet to play any game where I actually liked motion sensing as the primary control input) being any better.

Tetriabetes homebrew for the PSP kicks some major @$$ and definitely improves on the original.

» Bad Google

Google chose to honor the 25th anniversary of Tetris over the 65th anniversary of D-Day.

Where's the logic in that?

No one likes to be reminded of war... (I think) so they chose Tetris.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

1. You can't celebrate everything.

2. 25 is a milestone, 65 is not.

I'd rather celebrate a happy note.
