Sega, Alfa Systems working on Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP |
Ó
While little is known about the game, it was said that it is being handled by developer Alfa Systems which brought Tales of Innocence to the Nintendo DS. It was also mentioned that the Sony PSP build is going to be an expansion of PSU: Ambition of the Illuminus.
Ambition of the Illuminus is an installment to the online game Phantasy Star Universe which is available on platforms Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC as an MMORPG. The PSP version will feature new story, missions, and four player support in Ad-hoc mode.
There is still no word if Phantasy Star Portable will ever make it to other regions outside Japan. Famitsu however mentioned that Sega will be releasing a lot of updates about this in the coming weeks.

PSO is near to nothing without the massively multi-player element. Four players via Ad-hoc is a colossal waste. Why not just create an original single-player story? I'd buy that. I wouldn't buy a watered down MMO without the MMO.
Gah! WHY can't they just do a simple PORT of Dreamcast v2! All they would have to do is use matchmaking over PSN and allow single player while you're offline. There's already plenty of content there, and the grinding aspect of the game works perfectly with the portable genre. First we get Phantasy Star Online being such a different step from PS, now we get PSU and THIS being SUCH A DIFFERENT STEP FROM PSO!
not online!? but but but! the dreamcast version was online!!! DREAMCAST!!! PSP is more powerful than a dreamcast! :@
PSU/PSO is, to me, only about the online play. I never even played the story on my 360. This is not going to make it to the states unless it has a great story or they decide to implement online multiplayer. Sorry, what a waste..
Porting the game would be a great idea if v2 wasn't already full of cheats, including cheats that mess up character data. Blue burst only had like, what? One bug fixed? The cheating continued until temporary closure of the server, a repeat would be fatal...
When I read the article, I thought it was goiing to be a remake of the original PS series.
I was hoping it would have been an all new game with an original story. Perhaps a continuation of the Algol story, or at the very least an original offshoot of the PSU story. Or... They could just port the ALREADY-MADE remakes released for the PS2 in Japan.
