SCEE's on a roll now. Not only did they just achieve their first UK number one in two years, in the form of Killzone 2, it has also just been revealed by Ray Maguire that the PlayStation consoles have reached sales milestones. The PS3 is reported to have hit the 2 million mark, while the PSP is at 3 million. They also give a whole lot of credit to Halo Wars stumper, Killzone 2, pinpointing it as the one which secured the two Sony consoles' future. Said Maguire,
This is a series with a lot more stories to tell. Everyone is reporting really good sales of Killzone 2. We've seen not just a really good day one - but also for the game to be a good solid seller all the way through. We've got good bundles out there with hardware and software and that has picked up nicely according to our numbers
It certainly has helped drive hardware I think there were a lot of people out there who wanted something which really showed the power of PlayStation 3 - and now they see it it's a reason for them to get on board.
The 2 million unit sales for the PS3 is most certainly good news as it shows that they have successfully convinced people to get the unit despite complaints in the market that it is overpriced, and despite the many clamor for a price cut - to which Sony remains unyielding. This, according to Maguire, shows that they "have chipped away at the top end of the triangle."
I don't know what triangle he's actually talking about, but I'd personally be more interested in the Toblerone triangle. Nonetheless, he is also happy abut the "renewed vigour" of the PSP, and says that the publishers have already "woken up" to the PSP's new value-added proposition in terms of online content.
Congrats, PS3 and PSP!

Anyway, good for Sony to have more success to PSP and PS3.

Killzone 2 is FPS, so it can't be a halo killer. People need to stop with the halo killer bull. It's people like you, and Sony last gen, who killed and overhyped Killzone 1. While it was a very good title, Sony and fanboys killed the title leaving it mediocre. >_>
