SCEE targeting younger demographic for PSP

"PSP is going for a younger market, which isn't something we've really done before," said Claire Backhouse, UK product manager for the PSP. Does this mean we'll be seeing more casual, wholesome games for the young'uns?

Not necessarily, although that's also not that far off the mark. But more spot on is their new marketing campaign that is directly targeting 8 to 15-year-olds. By launching the Whole World in Your Hand website, pspinyourhands.com, consumers within this age bracket would be welcomed into a whole new world of 3D gallery, contests, and a chance to win a family holiday. That's wholesome right there.

As for the games' target, Backhouse reassured that 16-24 year olds, specifically the males, are still their "heartland." "They won't be neglected in the slightest," said she. However, there is no doubt that Petz and Harry Potter are but two of those games that are obviously appealing to the 8 to 15 demographic.

Oh yea...

Cause Daxter was totally not intended for a younger audience. That said, I don't really see why this would hurt. The PSP is clearly a better value over the DSi *when you are only considering the hardware and not the software* and handheld gaming does still seem to be centered around a more tween/elementary age group. Might as well try and capture some sales out of them.
