Rising Star comes up with Bubble Bobble sequel |
Ó
It seems that developer Rising Star Games is all for evolution - in a sun-shiny, rainbow-glittered sky kind of way. Just two months after releasing Bubble Bobble Evolution, the company announces today that they will be porting another Taito classic to our much loved handhelds.Rainbow Islands Evolution actually served as a sequel to arcade game Bubble Bobble back in 1987. So making it next after the latter and the first title for 2007 is actually a good call for Rising Star. "Rainbow Islands Evolution is the first PSP title weÂ’ve confirmed for release early next year. 2007 is going to be a busy 12 months for Rising Star and in the coming weeks we'll show how varied our product-packed schedule really is," states Rising Star Games COO Martin Defries.
While we are happy that Defries company is quite in a good shape, we would appreciate it more if he had given any details about Rainbow Islands. We know that Bubble Bobble follows the adventure of Bub and Bob, two brothers that were trapped inside dinosaur suits. We wonder if they would continue with this plot. In the original series, the brothers finally revealed their human forms in Rainbow Islands. We guess we'll just keep our eyes open for new details.

This is great news, at least for me. Ive been a massive fan of the bubble bobble series since i first played them on my Amiga 500. I was thinking about getting rainbow islands for the DS (and borrowing my mums ds whenever i want to play it) but its not the same using a stylis to create rainbows. I hope they don't change the formula too much as the classic was an amazing game.
Bubble Bobble Evolution was pretty crappy, it didn't feel like the series at all. I think they need to stick to sprites and not quasi 3D/2D characters. What's the best 2D/sprite version of the game on any system that can be emulated on the PSP?
Yes what is the best emulated version? I remember that i was playing rainbow island on my psp a few months back but for the life of me i cant remember what emulator i was using, think it might have been snes. Don;t think bubble bobble evolution has been released in the UK yet, maybe wrong but havent seen it. I love the idea that they are releasing all these classic games but they really shoulnd't alter them too much. When a game becomes classic anything other than it in its original form will not work, even if its technicaly better. Take music for example. If someone did a cover of Led Zepplin Stairway to heaven, and played it with technicaly harder solo's and with higher quility recording, you'd still think led zep's version was better just because thats the version you fell in love with first.
Hopefully it'll be better than Bubble Bobble Evolution, which really was a big disappointment. Bought, played during a few days, sold, end of story.
