RIP: Colin McRae dies in helicopter crash |
Ó
After cheating death countless of times as rally racing's most exciting driver, we regret to report that Colin McRae, 39, was killed in a helicopter crash with his five year old son and two others. Some gamers not familiar to the sport McRae dominated in know his name from Codemaster's racing series, the latest entry of which is Colin McRae: DiRT (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) which recently arrived on the PlayStation 3.
According to Scotland's Strathclyde police, four people were onboard the helicopter supposedly piloted by McRae himself. The crash happened near the former rally racer's home in Jerviswood, Lanarkshire. The bodies were difficult to identify due to heavy burns, but authorities were quite certain that McRae was onboard.
As of now, it is difficult to confirm what went wrong. The weather was fairly good during the day of the incident, and rally journalist Jeremy Hart stated that McRae was a "very good, very measured pilot." Hart also mentioned that his friend knew the terrain and conditions at Jerviswood very well.

No way! RIP dude.
Very sad. At least it's not Solberg.
Damn that really sucks, i'm going to go and buy DiRT now, as a way to pay my respects, please guys, lets not turn this into an immature fanboy war
poor guy. he couldnt have went in a race eh. would've been so much more fitting. and his son died to which is even sader. being a widow must be difficult for his wife. good luck to her.
PS. thank god QJ made people have to register to comment because im sure some ass holes would glady say rude things about him.
RIP Colin. You will be missed
My eyes open widely when i read the topic title. Then I felt bloody strange when i finish reading the paragraph. It's certainly sad to see him go. I hope his soul at least rest in peace.
Ride on Cowboy...
Immature fanboy wars won't happen much, now that you can't post anonymously. Thankfully.
CM dead?!>!>! That blows my f'n mind.
QJ please stop spreading rumours.
BBC news website states (AS of 05:39am on 16th of september)
"Strathclyde Police said Colin McRae, a keen pilot, is thought to have been on board with three others.
However formal identification of those killed still has to be carried out."
So until you know for sure, at least put "Colin McRae Believed dead"
I'm pretty sure he is dead. Sorry mate, I hate to see him go too. He was really charismatic. I saw him once in Mexico.
Like I said, at least it wasn't Petter Solberg. That guy can drive.
wow... thats seriously heart breaking.... my heart stopped reading this. I am not a huge fan meaning I have never seen him and I don't really pick up his games but wow. Just wow I'm speechless RIP and i hope his family gets well soon. wow. :(
I am terribly sad to learn this tragic news! I love rally since my early age, and I always considered Collin as a excellent driver. I love his driving stills and skills, and on top of it, he is a real Scotsman from Lanarkshire, with his distinguished Scottish accent.
This is also very sad for the death of his son. All my sincere condoleances go to his family.
That is very sad. his son too, hope his family will be ok RIP man
Mate, saying at least it's not someone else (twice no less) is being completely disrespectful. Especially if you're basing this on their driving ability as you imply above.
First you say you hate to see him go, then you say the most disrespectful thing you could possibly say. And it's the second time you've said it no less.
Im gutted for his family.... R.I.P
