R.I.P., Acclaim

Acclaim, a video game company, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We can now all bow our heads and say, "Thank you." While we feel for those who've lost their jobs, the company has brought us some real stinkers over the past years, including (but not limited to) Turok: Evolution, BMX: XXX (did the company really think nudity in this one would be enough to make the game sell?), and ECW Hardcore Revolution.

Even though the company announced their defeat long ago, they are just now putting their assets up for auction, allowing other companies to purchase the rights to titles like Fur Fighters and Iggy's Reckin' Balls. The rights to the actual name of the now-broke company have already been sold, meaning that we will see some more games under the name of 'Acclaim' in the future.

Amen.

Acclaim had some good classic games, such as those for the SNES, and the older PC, and arcade games.

Goodbye Acclaim :'[

im not gonna say thank you.. i feel bad for them.. acclaim was responsible for many good games too you know. home versions of NBA Jam on SNES and Genesis as well as a ton of great NES games. id rather not focus on what they failed to do.. but choose to remember the times they made me happy with great products.. to me. acclaim will be sorely missed.

Man, they were one of the best Developers back in the day. They really started to suck with the current Gen. Dunno what kind of drugs these guys were doing but they did indeed release a pile of crap. I honestly did not play 1 single Acclaim Game Since the original Extreme G for the N64. They will be missed, but I defitnly don't see them getting much for titles they still hold the rights to.

# Juiced? lolGuest 2006-04-25 15:45
Acclaim announced this back when they were working on Juiced about a year ago lol. I remember looking forward to that game and then finding out that they were going bankrupt so they had to sell the rights of Juiced to somebody else (THQ I think, not sure).

The turok games had some decent features I'd like to see again, but not very many of them (there were...three I think) were geat.

Though Fur Fighters, I recall, was pretty fun --or at least ammusing, back in the day.

RIP.

now that someone else bought them out, this doesn't mean acclaim is dead or out of business. It probably means a better staff of people taking over.

# COMPLAINT, CONTINUEDGuest 2006-04-25 16:35
Henceforth, I posit that the QuickJump staff must change their mannerisms. This is because the deletion of fourteen posts seemed hardly neccessary for the resolution of this "first post" situation. In addition, I fail to observe how my first post was in any way harmful or vulgar.

When I deleted the first complaint, you did not give me a chance to respond. I am trying to keep these comments on the main discussion topic. My last article fell into a discussion of off topic smut including references to Hitler.

I do not want this to happen again.

# Why Matt A. Should Be FiredGuest 2006-04-25 17:00
Last time I checked, the point of blogs was of opinion. And, to my recollection, I'm allowed to voice mine. My view was that QJ should try and put some BASIC research into its news articles... nearly everyone in the gaming scene could've told you about Acclaim's bankruptcy when it happened... a year ago.

Acclaim is back now as an MMO producer. By posting this, it may seem like this new company is gone. It's not. And for shame to Matt A. for this.

But furthermore, he deleted ALL negative feedback to his own report, which is why he should be fired. Take our criticism. And god damnit, do some research.

I expect this message to be deleted. But kudos if it stays up.

# Heres an IdeaGuest 2006-04-25 17:18
Hey, heres a thought!

Instead of posting this under 'News', this site should create a section called 'Olds!'. That way Matt A. can prance around and post all the year old information he can find!

Hey, Matt! Did you hear? EA secured the NFL license!

Also, to the other non-informed above:

1) The Dave Mirra license was sold off to 'Crave Entertainment'. A PSP Dave Mirra game is coming soon.

2) MK is not created by Acclaim, don't worry

3) The new Acclaim aims to have some games out this year. It would be a damn shame if consumers thought they went bankrupt. I mean, talk about misinformation.

Wow. What a terrible excuse for hastily posting news. The story on Gama Sutra has reference... it posts "INFORMATION". You, sir, are posting mis-information.

The story notated notes not the bankruptcy of the company, but the fact that it's final assets are being sold off. Matt A, can you read? Or do you just rely on pictures, and make a story out of it? Your "article" has little to do with the linked story.

You mentioned how your last post went into a smut conference. Find it odd how both of these incidents occured because of you?

NBA Jam was developed by Midway and Iguana

This is really old. Acclaim went bankrupt and closed its doors 2 years ago.

The auction on the game assets ended in late December.

The new Acclaim has nothing to do with the old one except they bought the name.

Mis-information!

I think it would be a little more ironic, if the article was written as "Acclaim has ironicaly filed a claim for bancruptcy and if now officially claimed dead on the scene according to gamers who have claimed this information to be accurate as Acclaim sucked anyway"....
