The trouble looming over GameSpot isn't over yet. Just a week after former GameSpot reviewer Frank Provo left the gaming information site, and about a month after the Jeff Gerstmann controversy, another GS veteran Alex Navarro announced that his duties in GameSpot will end on January 24. The news was relayed to Kotaku by GameSpot's editorial director, Ricardo Torres.

According to Torres, they are already looking for people to fill in the vacated positions as soon as possible, to fix their quite understaffed review crew. When asked about what the other editors thought about the issue, Torres said that GameSpot is still "moving forward," citing the support of their fans who still choose to stand by them as their main reason to keep GameSpot going.

Navarro is well known for his contributions to GameSpot's podcast the HotSpot. The reasons for his decision to resign from his post is currently unknown, but you can be sure that we'll keep tabs on it.

Good thing GameSpot isn't the only choice out there.

» GS

GameSpot will be dead soon. Everyone's leaving them.

» damn

wtf is happening to GameSpot, it used to be my favourite game review source.

then Jeff got fired, now Alex is leaving. those were my two favorite reviewers because they always gave the most accurate and non commercial reviews

» Ehh...

Alex was an ass hole. And I say that because he gave games I liked crappy scores and crappier reviews. But at least I respect the guy more for leaving that super crappy site.

» oh no

Didn't like Alex's 'My Little Pony' review?

by stingray_shrey - 2008-01-12 11:40
» umm

how is gamespot "super crappy"? It's got a great layout, lots of review, and is so user freindly...

I hope when GS shuts down they decide to leave the forums open lol

» @stingray

They base their review scores on ad revenue... so if a game studio buys the most ad spaces, their games get the best scores. I would call that "super crappy", regardless of the site layout, the number of reviews, and "user-friendliness".

They're forums sucks too.

another pointless subject

» QJ is one pointless subject

90% of the stories on here are pointless filler! Instead of talking about the downfall of gamespot, why not try spending your time finding real fact finding, top story writers for QJ rather than this fluff.

» The forums are the worst thing about GS

I don't think I've encountered a single intelligent individual on those boards in the 5+ years I've been visiting the site.

by Yaz - 2008-01-12 23:40
» Come now Master Chef

5+ years on GS and ALL the people you've encountered there are idiots? I don't believe you're being truthful there. :)

I've been on GS for many years, same with IGN and many other website forums, and whilst it's true that the fanboys and trolls tend to be everywhere on topic threads (yes even here on QJ), there are ALWAYS a number of intelligent individuals to be found. :|

» They could hire me

But they probably wouldn't want me reviewing heavily advertised Wii games.
