John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, commented earlier this year that indie developers will have it increasingly tough to compete with major studios; which is why it's a treat to see that one indie game studio, Rebellion Developments, managed to make it to the level of major studios.
According to Develop's list of most successful game studios, Rebellion Developments ranked at 16th place, just one spot below Capcom. This distinction also marks Rebellion as Europe's leading independent developer. For the curious: rankings are decided by revenues of their games that retailed in the UK last 2007.
Rebellion is the studio that gave us the PSP and Wii versions of The Simpsons Game, which was made in collaboration with Electronic Arts. They are also the studio behind Star Wars: Renegade Squadron, and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
Although they primarily focused on the PSP in the previous years, they remarked last December that they'll be moving up to consoles in the future, starting with a sequel to Eidos Interactive's Shellshock. We can probably expect a lot more coming from Rebellion Developments in the future.
