Developers diaries often give us insights into why game developers design the game in a certain way. In this case, Brian Coonce, principal game designer for Rainbow Studios' MX vs. ATV Untamed (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DS), talks about how the game's Opencross game mode makes the game stand out.

According to Mr. Coonce, the very principle behind MX vs. ATV Untamed's Opencross mode was to allow players to demonstrate their mastery of the offroad vehicles of their choice against other players in a competitive setting. Thus, Rainbow Studios made the Open cross racetracks really, really long, and even threw in plenty of obstacles for good measure.

The variety of different vehicles at players disposal, Mr. Coonce said, may also affect the outcomes of the races in MX vs. ATV Untamed. In the final analysis, however, truly skillful players may keep up with and even surpass the competition regardless of what vehicle they're driving.

That series needs to be buried 67 feet under. Such a lame, behind in every department and stale.

They should just leave the ol cross country to MotorStrom and DiRT.
