IGN managed to get their hands on a preview build of the upcoming Race Driver 2006 headed for the PSP. In case you aren't familiar with the series, games like TOCA Race Driver and Pro Race Driver are famed for their vast selection of cars, accurate simulation physics, and their real time damage modelling systems that actually impact your car's performance.

Lucky for us, it seems as if Codemasters isn't holding out at all on the handheld version. The damage system is still in place, so if you aren't careful you could lose a tire or wreck your transmission. While the PSP has already seen two Need for Speed games, a Midnight Club, and several other arcade racers, it's nice to see that a racing simulator is on the way. One of the best features will be the online play, which supports ad hoc and infrastructure modes for up to 12 players! Game sharing is also available, so even if you're friend doesn't own the game you can still play against him. This series has been very successful on home consoles and PCs, and the PSP version is shaping up to be just as good. Be sure to head on over to IGN for the full preview.
